Nice machine, but standard spec ain't enough!
Review of Systemax Inspire 7392 - Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73 GHz - 17" CRT by
tomo1k
Advantages: Good build quality, excellent customer support - Can be customised
Disadvantages: Not enough memory as specified
These Systemax machines are well-built, and have plenty of space inside for future upgrades. The cables inside are very neatly tied away, which makes life a lot easier when you want to install a new video card or extra RAM.
USB ports are provided front and rear, which is essential now that USB memory sticks are becoming popular.
However, I'd strongly suggest that prospective customers get more RAM fitted than the standard spec. With the standard ... ...you definately don't get the best out of the powerful AMD Athlon XP processor.
Fortunately, Simply allow you to customise these machines and will happily fit almost any extra gizmos you want, or remove anything you don't think you need.
I customised my machine to 1GB of RAM and added a DVD-writer to the standard equipment, and the price for these improvements was very reasonable.
However, I did experience some trouble about 2 months into ownership ...

Compensation please
Review of Systemax Ascent 7370 - Athlon XP 2500+ 1.83 GHz - 19" CRT by
gogaTSV
Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: not build well
I got my Systemax 500mhz 64SDRAM machine in June 2000. By early August I started having some problems that neither Simply Tech support nor their engineers could explain. I had to return my PC. After 10 days I got it back with a note saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it had undergone vigorous checks. However, as soon as I started working, the same problems started occuring. Yes, you guessed it, I sent it back again. Now, it took ... ...wrong with it, and sent it back to me.
Third time, four months later and probably 50 complains, Simply agreed to rebuild my PC.
I got my new PC at last, and everything seems fine. there are a few minor problems that I try not pay attention to. e.g. it doesn't play audio CDs, When I phoned up the tech support to ask why, they recommended I't return the machine to them for a check. I don't think I will. I have really had enough with this company.

Powerhouse, budget gamer's dream!
Review of Dell XPS 420 by
BoyEngland
Advantages: Can play the latest games, fast boot-up, reliable, runs cool, runs quietly
Disadvantages: Price is a little steep, not all games are compatible with Quad Core processors
...built XPS 420 directly from Dell which contains a 2.40GHz Quad Core processor, 4GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce 9800GT, and all the other good stuff a computer needs. I ordered it late night on a Sunday, and I had it setup and working by the Thursday. Best of all? Shipping was free!
Between pressing the power button and the computer being ready to use, you are looking at around 30 seconds. This includes me entering my password to log on. I see this as ... ...hadn't been for the current Dell offer and a discount code I had at the time. I will admit, I wouldn't have paid £920 for the system, no chance!
Since starting the computer for the first time, I haven't had a single problem with it that wasn't caused by a faulty disk or my lack of patience. I would recommend it to anyone, even gamers. ...

No disadvantages - so far...
Review of Dell Inspiron 530 - Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.6 GHz - 17" TFT by
Stanislav69
Advantages: double proccessor, never overheats, very quiet, selection of grpahics cards, enclosed in silver casing
Disadvantages: none
The Dell Inspiron 530 was a birthday present for me and is a very stylish and new computer.
This computer is very stylish because of the silver casing which covers the actual black computer box its self. Bothe DVD and optional blue ray disc drives are hidden making it look plain which also makes it look very neat and tidy. The Dual Core processor is capable of much more than it seems. All though Core 2 duo would be much better, the PC is able to ... ...that the 1.4Ghz is doubled meaning that the total output is actually a big 2.8Ghz! (reliable source - My dad who works for an IT buisness as a programer). There is also a selection of graphics cards to choose with this proccessor if bought online from dell. This computer makes little noise and is very quiet compared with my mums Packard Bell computer which has only a Pentium D proccessor.
There are no disadvantages to this computer so far and I ...
