Cleaning my kitchen floor is a tedious job I’m not really fond of doing, like most people. Well I’ve seen that product on the telly that you don’t even need a bucket for and you don’t even need to rinse. Apparently you just squirt it on the floor, rub over with mop and hey presto it’s done. Well this I just had to try for my self, as it sounded so quick and easy. I put it on my shopping list and proceeded to the local Sainsbury’s where I had no trouble in finding it on the shelves. I have also seen it in Superdrug, Safeway and Tessco’s so there is no difficulty in purchasing it. My bottle bought at Sainsbury’s cost me £1.89 for a 1-litre bottle. This is fairly average with the exception of any special offer there might be around.
The cleaner comes in a tall mid blue plastic bottle. The label on the front has the usual little sword symbol we are all familiar with and it tells you the product is anti-bacterial. On the back it has the instructions for use and warning that it is not suitable for use on unsealed floors. The top on the bottle is one of those little plastic nozzles that you just pull up to open, this opens easily with very little force needed so elderly and weak hands should be able to cope with it. On the very top are four tiny little holes of which the liquid comes out.
When it came time to wash my kitchen floor. I decided to use this so I dampened my mop as told to on the instructions. I then pulled up nozzle up and squirted it on my floor. This bit I quite enjoyed, it makes a change for me to be making the mess on the floor instead of just being the one to clean it up. The liquid shoots out of the top in four streams at an angle so don’t start in the corner or you’re likely to squirt it up your walls. After applying the liquid I grabbed my mop and mopped. So far so good, what a doddle this seemed really great.
Now having done this I was standing there with my dirty mop, so do I (a) put it away dirty, or (b) get out the bucket I was told I would not need, so I could wash my mop. So point one, unless you buy one of their mop’s that take the disposable pad’s you do still need a bucket to rinse the mop in. Hummm.
It didn’t take a great deal of liquid to do my floor but I only have a small kitchen so the bottle should last for quite some time. There for it is quite economical.
On the bottle it informs you that it is formulated to dry in five minutes, this sounded good to me so I decided to put this to the test and set my kitchen timer to five minutes and waited. After my little bell on the timer sounded I gleefully went to check my floor. Ah! It was still quite wet (so much for that claim). I left it for a further five-minute and this time on my return it was nice and dry. So point two it takes between five and ten minutes to dry, still quite good though.
The next test, was it clean? Well in a word NO! It did shift the surface dirt, but no way would I call it clean, in fact I’m going to wash it again. It does claim to kill 99.9% of bacteria, but the air is full of bacteria and as soon as it dries there will be millions of little uninvited guests back on the floor. It does have to be said it doesn’t clean it as clean as with a mop and bucket.
The bottle claims it doesn’t leave the floor sticky so I slipped off my slippers and walked across the room and it wasn’t sticky in the slightest. There was only a very faint smell of detergent to it and this faded quickly.
There is a web site for this at homesolutionsnews.com where they offer to let you print out money off coupon. I tried this but it just went round in circles and I never found it. May be you might have better luck, its worth a go.
Well all in all my personal opinion on this product is, it does clean the floor a little, but not satisfactory in my opinion. You will need the bucket to clean your mop. It’s not quite as quick to dry as it leads you to believe, but it is useful I suppose in certain times, like when you have just washed your floor but forgot the dog was out in the garden and its raining, then it is useful to use with a little kitchen paper to clean little spots and paw prints etc.
In other words it’s a good quick fix. Thanks for reading.
Advantages: Fast and easy for floors that are all but clean, doesn't leave a sticky residue, dries quickly... Disadvantages: Doesn't remove stubborn marks or stains...
...it was out with the Dettol Direct and the required damp mop and I set about the ‘fast and efficient’ task in hand. Firstly I vacuumed the floor and then popped the cap up on the Dettol. It has four small holes in the cap to make the product easier to apply to the floor surface and to be fair that part was a synch. It is a doddle to apply and it is easy to control the flow of the liquid so none of it splashes on either the skirting boards or cabinets. ... ...home with a pack of Dettol’s Direct Floor WIPES. Oddly, they work BETTER and remove even plaster and paint with the minimum of fuss. That’s where I am putting my money for the ‘quicker’ option. Sometimes in life there are shortcuts. Dettol Direct Floor Cleaner just isn’t one of them! ...

Advantages: Cleans brilliantly Disadvantages: Still need a bucket
As I have a delightful but messy six month old puppy, our kitchen and utility floors are cleaned at least once, normally closer to three times a day. I was using a standard squeezy mop with diluted floor cleaner but found that the floor was never squeaky clean, and having the puppy and young children about meant that using undiluted floor cleaner was a big no no. I also found that the floor took ages to dry, and the mop didn't take long to start ... ...this product. She said that you did not need to use a bucket, just squirt the cleaner onto the floor, clean with a mop and leave to dry. It seemed an ideal alternative to what I was doing so I bought it when I was shopping. It cost me £1.59 for a 1 litre bottle, which is about double the price of my current disinfectant, but I was hoping it would last longer so it would not work out too expensive.
The product was easy to spot amongst the other floor ...

Advantages: Cleans well, quick and easy - no bucket required! Disadvantages: Er - none really!
...I saw this bottle of Dettol Direct and being a sucker for "new and different" products, hurled it into the trolley.
So, it's a floor cleaner - just how "new and different" is it, I hear you cry. Well, mumble perhaps (you are still awake aren't you?!). Well, it's called "direct" because that's what it is. You basically squirt the stuff directly onto the floor. No bucket needed. This sounded good. I hate having to dig around in the shed for the bucket ... ...recently had.....I'd prefer not to talk about it...shudder). The cleaner comes in a tall green bottle which holds 1 litre. It has a pop up squirty top and a bright label with the product details on the front and the "instructions", such as they are, on the back. The front label proclaims that the product is "Anti-bacterial - kills 99.9% of bacteria" which has got to be a bonus.
Now for the chore of cleaning the floor. The bottle recommends that ...

Made by Dettol a name you can trust? Well Dettol we shall see!
DOES IT WORK?
In a word No it does not. You can use this on lino, Tiles & laminate however laminate flooring can be susepible to streaking if not cleaned in the correct way. This product cannot be used on real wood floors such as parquet.
You must first sweep of vacuum the floor to be cleaned. Then simply pull up the nossle on the lid & squirt the product directly onto ... ...you are going to use alot of it.
I feel Dettol have used their previusly reliable & trusted brand name to con me into buying this product. It won't be long till Dettol looses favour with many customers selling this sort of half baked rubbish.

Dettol direct floor cleaner is manufactured and marketed by the large multinational corporation Reckitt & Bensicker. It is also anti-bacterial.
The bottle is ingeniously simple to use; four holes in a push up lid - turn the bottle up, squeeze and hey presto - 4 jets of the wonder liquid are distributed around the offending floor. This does take a wee bit of practice to ensure that the jets are being directed at the floor ... ...all your other kitchen appliances. Wipe over with a damp mop. What I would do is recommend that whenever cleaning a kitchen floor and with whatever product you choose - use boiling water on the mop; it's amazing the difference it makes! And the floor dries so much quicker.
So, armed with mop wrung out in boiling water, I mopped away. They also say you don't need to rinse mop, but I beg to differ and again would recommend that you do; otherwise you're ...

I tried dettoldirectfloorcleaner after trying most other well advertised laminate and floorcleaners. At first I was a bit dubious about whether it would be any different to the rest. After watching my mum clean her lino with it I was pleasantly surprised that the floor was shiny with no streaks and not at all sticky like with other products. The test on my laminate floor had still to come though and I couldn't imagine it being any good on MY floors. After squirting a tiny drop onto my floor I mopped over with a damp(not wet) sponge mop and waited for the streaks to appear. I am still waiting for the streaks many washes and many days later. It only took 5 minutes for the floor to be completely dry and amazingly shiny, which is words that have never before been used to describe my floors especially with 2 young children running about ...
