Following all the jollities of Christmas that included zillions of visitors traipsing in and out of the kitchen, my kitchen floor was in desperate need of help.
I was looking for a solution that didn't include having to get down on my hands and knees with a scrubbing brush, and found this product being promoted in Sainsburys. £1.89 for a 1-litre bottle. I believe this is the standard price for the product, but it was being promoted through strategic product placement, rather than a price reduction or a special offer. The bottle is fairly “tall” and is a nice dark green pine colour.
Dettol direct floor cleaner is manufactured and marketed by the large multinational corporation Reckitt & Bensicker. It is also anti-bacterial.
The bottle is ingeniously simple to use; four holes in a push up lid - turn the bottle up, squeeze and hey presto - 4 jets of the wonder liquid are distributed around the offending floor. This does take a wee bit of practice to ensure that the jets are being directed at the floor and not at the skirting boards or the bottom of all your other kitchen appliances.
Wipe over with a damp mop. What I would do is recommend that whenever cleaning a kitchen floor and with whatever product you choose - use boiling water on the mop; it's amazing the difference it makes! And the floor dries so much quicker.
So, armed with mop wrung out in boiling water, I mopped away. They also say you don't need to rinse mop, but I beg to differ and again would recommend that you do; otherwise you're kind of just spreading the dirt around a bit over your nice clean floor? But maybe that’s just me?
To say I was impressed is an understatement. I was gob smacked upon rinsing the mop the colour of the water and at the micro particles that had been loosened from the floor! The difference to the floor is clearly visible, even on ordinary linoleum. It definitely looks cleaner, and it certainly feels cleaner. Your floor is not left at all sticky and feels quite nice underfoot. It smells nice too, not a heavy disinfectant type scent, but a gentle pine fragrance.
OK, the instructions might be slightly misleading by saying that you don't need to rinse mop, but if you're looking for a product that's fast, effective, leaves the floor clean and non-slippy, this could just be the one for you. Besides, it’s a small price to pay, and it’s a matter of personal choice, depending on just how “clean” you want your floor to be.
I'm definitely sold .... and it lasts for ages, although I do have a small kitchen. I was my kitchen floor on average once a week, and would estimate that the bottle lasts between 6-8 weeks.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Cheers
