Well, it's been a while since I wrote a review - so I thought I'd pick something absolutely gripping this time!!
I have to admit to being a lazy thing really. Whilst I like to have a neat and tidy house, I would far rather this was achieved with very little or no effort on my part. Actually......I think I need a cleaner...but that's not going to happen any time soon! There are various household chores that I can rate in order of tedium - top of the list is the dreaded ironing, but coming a close second is cleaning the kitchen floor.
I've recently replaced the somewhat grotty lino in my kitchen with some very smart slate grey tiles and although I must admit that I picked a dark colour so as not to show the dirt(!) they still need to be cleaned. On browsing the shelves at my local Asda today, fully intending to buy a bottle of ordinary floor cleaner, I saw this bottle of Dettol Direct and being a sucker for "new and different" products, hurled it into the trolley.
So, it's a floor cleaner - just how "new and different" is it, I hear you cry. Well, mumble perhaps (you are still awake aren't you?!). Well, it's called "direct" because that's what it is. You basically squirt the stuff directly onto the floor. No bucket needed. This sounded good. I hate having to dig around in the shed for the bucket (probably stems from a particurlarly nasty spider related incident I recently had.....I'd prefer not to talk about it...shudder). The cleaner comes in a tall green bottle which holds 1 litre. It has a pop up squirty top and a bright label with the product details on the front and the "instructions", such as they are, on the back. The front label proclaims that the product is "Anti-bacterial - kills 99.9% of bacteria" which has got to be a bonus.
Now for the chore of cleaning the floor. The bottle recommends that you sweep the floor first, so as to get rid of any big bits of dirt, so I did this first. After this, I pulled up the top of the bottle as instructed and proceeded to squirt the stuff all over the floor. Daft as it sounds, it was almost quite fun! The product sprays out out of four holes in the top of the bottle and covers a wide area. I almost felt quite anarchic spraying something all over the floor (bear with me, I've led a very sheltered life!). I then damped my mop, gave it a quick squeeze and whizzed over the floor. I really didn't have to scrub - the dirt just lifted off. I really was impressed. The bottle claims that this stuff is formulated to dry in just five minutes. Well, although I didn't time it to the second - it certainly did seem fast The kitchen was left with a nice fresh pine smell, which lasted for a good while.
The bottle states that this is suitable for use on vinyl and laminated floors, linoleum, glazed tiles and varnished wood. I haven't tried this on the laminated floor in the lounge yet, but after the success in the kitchen I will certainly give it a try.
Not having to find, fill up, empty and then put away a bucket, just to clean the floor has cut down on the tedium of this task immensely. It's not often I will be found waxing lyrical about a cleaning product - but this stuff is really good.
My bottle cost £1.79 from Asda.

I am also rather lazy when it comes to cleaning. The house is never filthy but it's rare that it gets a total clean...i just do bits and bobs as I go along. This sounds pretty good as I too find cleaning the kitchen floor a right pain!
