As you have probably gathered i'm a cleaning product freak. I always buy anything new. That is not to say my home is spotless i am always just looking for the easy option. Another miracle product?
Suprise, Suprise people it doesn't work!
This product has been availible for a couple of years now but i was only able to try it recently as when i lived at home we had carpet in the kitchen. It was only when i moved into my own flat which has lino on the kitchen floor that i was able to try this product.
WHAT IS IT?
It is a hardfloor cleaner that is already diluted In a 1 litre bottle. It has a pull up dispenser top similar to some washing up liquids. All that is supposed to be required is a damp mop, No bucket no water. Simply pull up the cap, spray it on the floor to be cleaned then simply wipe over with a damp mop. It comes in a 1 litre bottle & cost around £1.79. The product comes in an opaque clear plastic bottle. There are two smell variants on offer Green apple which is green in colour & Ocean fresh wich is blue in colour.
Made by Dettol a name you can trust? Well Dettol we shall see!
DOES IT WORK?
In a word No it does not. You can use this on lino, Tiles & laminate however laminate flooring can be susepible to streaking if not cleaned in the correct way. This product cannot be used on real wood floors such as parquet.
You must first sweep of vacuum the floor to be cleaned. Then simply pull up the nossle on the lid & squirt the product directly onto the floor in a side to side motion. Be careful not to do this too quickly or it sprays up your walls aswell simply mop over with a sponge mop then let it dry.
The first problem is it smells nothing like green apple. It was a sinthetic sickly sweet smell & quite overpowering.
The second problem is No bucket required! so how do i wash my dirty mop? In the sink where i wash my dishes? i don't think so the sponge mop was disposed of.
All you are doing with this product is spreading dirt all over the floor. As no bucket is required you are never rinsing the mop. When you use the traditional method either a mop or cloth you constantly return to the bucket to rinse before you do another part of the floor.I was a cleaner for many years so i should have known better. I would never dream of cleaning a whole floor without rinsing my cloth.
When the floor is dry it looks very dull & not shining like when i clean it with my usual product. After less than 24 hous the floor was sticky & there was a visible dirt build up..
The product claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria. It would need to due to the manner in which you have to clean the floor with it. You are just skimming over the surface dirt nor is the floor ever being rinsed of product so you are going to end up with a very sticky & dirty floor due to build up of product.
SHOULD I BUY SOME?
No it is a thouroughly unhygenic way of washing a floor & is not cost effective as if you have alot of area to cover as it is already diluted you are going to use alot of it.
I feel Dettol have used their previusly reliable & trusted brand name to con me into buying this product. It won't be long till Dettol looses favour with many customers selling this sort of half baked rubbish.
Thanks for reading!

I can see where you're coming from here - I agree you need to rinse. I know I've used floor cleaners to spray over a spill and followed with a quick wipe over but it always seems to end up sticky afterwards. :)

Have you given any consideration to the fact that some consumers may have those disposable/rewashable micro fibre wipe type mops? This cleaner sounds like the ideal sort for this type of consumer.
Advantages: Fast and easy for floors that are all but clean, doesn't leave a sticky residue, dries quickly... Disadvantages: Doesn't remove stubborn marks or stains...
