THE PROBLEM
We seem to have had a problem with mould and mildew around the corners of our bath for as long as I can remember. I realised quite soon after moving in that whoever fitted our bath did a very poor job indeed! Not only is it a bit on the cheap side, but it doesn't really fit the space for which it is intended.

Not only does the movement knacker the sealant (it never completely dries smooth), but it also makes it an absolute nightmare to clean, because water occasionally collects around the edges which means there is always a battle to keep on top of the scrubbing to lessen the mould problem. We seem to have had a problem with mould and mildew around the corners of our bath for as long as I can remember. I realised quite soon after moving in that whoever fitted our bath did a very poor job indeed! Not only is it a bit on the cheap side, but it doesn't really fit the space for which it is intended.
I used to make do with the fact that re-grouting/sealing the bath every so often was to be a part of my life that I couldn't avoid, because it keeps shifting. It's not a huge movement, but it's sufficient to be very annoying. Not only does the movement knacker the sealant (it never completely dries smooth), but it also makes it an absolute nightmare to clean, because water occasionally collects around the edges which means there is always a battle to keep on top of the scrubbing to lessen the mould problem. Since we can't really justify fitting a new bath right now, we've wedged wood underneath it in a vain attempt to keep it as still as possible and I try to keep up with a cleaning and scrubbing mission on a very regular basis, which has become somewhat tedious to say the very least. I thought I had tried literally every product out there - and there are a lot - but nothing seemed to work. Just as I was about to resign myself to accepting the fact that we're just naturally minging and black, mouldy grout and pink sludge was normal, I happened upon this delightful little green bottle.

THE SOLUTION?
Of course we've all heard of Dettol stuff (previously known as Dettox) and most of my cleaning products seem to be this brand, although I have to admit to not holding any great loyalty to specific brands when it comes to cleaning. I tend to buy whatever I think will make my life easier, but also get the job done well and fast. I remember getting all excited by the prospect of Cillit Bang (yes, I know I have no life but I'm a sucker for advertising and you've got to admit that Barry Scott is pretty convincing what with all that shouting!) and being sorely disappointed that it wasn't all THAT great. But, now that I come to think of it, all of my Dettol products have been brilliant. I use Dettol antibacterial spray on my kitchen surfaces on a daily basis and Mr Tadders told me I was getting old when I tried to hide my excitement about this amazing product. After all, surely it's just a bottle of bleach like any other?
HOW DO I USE IT?
It's very easy to use. It comes in a bottle with a spray nozzle so it's just a case of squirting the product over the desired area and leaving it for a few minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth. You don't need much as the chemicals do their work very quickly and there is absolutely no scrubbing involved. In this case, wiping means exactly that. It lifts that weird pink sludge very easily but, more importantly, it gets rid of any patches of that nasty mottled black mould that has a tendency to collect in the corners of your bath. If you have a shower curtain, it gets rid of the gubbins which cling to the bottom, and those who have problems cleaning a glass shower screen with a rubber suction pad at the bottom will find that it is dead easy to remove any dirt in hard to reach places by squirting a small amount of product over the general area and then rinsing it off with the shower head. After I've wiped off the residue with a damp cloth, I tend to rinse out the bath with the shower, or hot water once I'm done to ensure that I haven't missed any. The longest amount of time you have to wait is the five minutes it takes for the product to take effect, during which you can be doing other things. The cleaning itself takes even less time.
THE FINAL VERDICT
So, in short, it works and I don't really have any problems with it because it's more than halved my bathroom cleaning time, meaning I have more time to get on with life's more exciting activities whilst still reaping the rewards of a sparkly clean bathroom! Of course, I'm the only one who really cares about this in my house, but it makes me feel a bit better even if no one else appreciates it.
As with any product containing chemicals or bleach, you are advised to wear gloves and ensure you don't inhale it by mistake, I am quite rubbish and never bother taking any kind of precautions when it comes to cleaning products. That's not to say that I generally inhale cleaning products of a weekend, but my carelessness in general may go some way to explaining why one of my new towels is no longer chocolate brown but chocolate brown and orange. I think the spray may have collided with it by accident, but I can safely say that it's potent. This bleach is pretty damn strong. Obviously my colourful towel is solely down to user error, but it's worth bearing in mind that you should only use disposable cloths when using this product.
I have one little niggle with this product and that is the smell. It is not the thing to use if you want your bathroom to smell all citrusy fresh afterwards. Its purpose is to remove the stubborn mould and mildew stains and this it does, along with soap scum and general grime, with miraculous ease, but you won't want people to use your bathroom for a while afterwards, because it leaves a rather nasty chlorine smell which has a tendency to linger once you've used it. Whilst this proves you've been cleaning, it's not really pleasant unless you like your bathroom to smell of swimming pools. Mind you, it's nothing that can't be eliminated quite swiftly by a bit of fresh air or a blast of air freshener, which isn't exactly a hardship in my opinion. If ever you've had a problem cleaning your bathroom, give this stuff a whirl. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Advantages: Effective for many mould/mildew problems Disadvantages: Not environmentally friendly, bleach smell, not good for skin or clothes
I discovered Dettox anti-bacterial mould and mildew cleaner about ten years ago. We had some mildew in our bathroom, and some mould along a wall in our dining room, after a very rainy winter. I was rather sceptical about this product's claims, having spotted it in a supermarket, but am usually willing to try anything once. This is a bleach-based spray in a plastic container. It's not an aerosol, just a regular squirting spray, so no danger to the ... ...The container is a typical Dettox style squirty trigger bottle, in a surprisingly bright shade of green. They've recently changed the design of all their bottles, making the trigger much easier to use, and far less prone to dripping. On the back it claims to have an 'anti-bacterial mould and mildew remover which removes stains caused by ingrained mould'. The smell, after spraying, is unquestionably bleach. Not a smell I like, but I do associate it ...

I was so chuffed when I found this product on the supermarket shelf that I couldn't wait to get it home and get using it straight away. I'd just moved into a pretty grotty flat (big mistake but it was in my price range) at the time I first used it but it was a lot less grotty once I started using this. The bathroom in the flat had really grimy black grout between the tiles in the shower and sooty mildew forming on the ceiling. There was green slime ... ...pretty blue shower curtain, was spotted with black too. My bedroom, which was next door, was in a similar state with black spots on the wall around the window and furry green mould thriving quite happily on the sill and all the crevices around it. Yuk! So as you can imagine I was eager to get rid of it, and set to work following the instructions on the bottle carefully, which are: - 1.Wear rubber gloves 2.Open nozzle and spray affected areas from ...

...says it is made by Dettox and has the sword symbol on it. It also has a coat of arms “By appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11”. Some how I cant quite see royalty having problems with mouldy bathrooms.

I have used other Dettox products before and been suitably impressed, so I proceeded with the deal.
First I tried squirting a little behind the door, just to check it wouldn’t melt my paint. I came back after 10 minutes, (although the bottle says 3-5 minutes. I wanted to be sure) to find no difference at all. (There wasn’t any mould or anything there before I just wanted to test it) The paint seemed fine. So I adorned my rubber gloves and ...

...the job and I found Dettox Anti Bacterial Mould and Mildew Remover at £1.86 for 500ml. I read the back of the carton and thought that it sounded just the job so back I came with my purchase to see if it lived up to its expectations.
The liquid comes in a green plastic spray carton with a white trigger style top. There is a hinged cap on the end of the nozzle that lifts up and clips to the top of the nozzle when in use and clips back over the hole ... ...clean. Then I sprayed the Dettox on the worst bits, but as I was doing this, the liquid began to run down the container and all over my hand – maybe I should have worn rubber gloves after all.
After leaving it for about five minutes I returned with the hosepipe and washed it off with limited success. Some of the green stuff had been washed away but not very much at all, in fact I would estimate that I would need at least four or five applications ...

The first flat we lived in had a bathroom with no window and an extractor fan that didn't work properly so we had a big problem with mould and mildew on the walls ceiling and in the tile grout. so when I saw this product I just had to try it and I'm glad I did, it comes with a directional trigger spray so you can spray exactally where its needed ,and it works in minuets you can actually see the mould dissapearing before your eyes, and when you rinse/wipe ... ...when used on tile grout it brings it up very white. When you smell it you find that it smells of bleach and for that reason you have to be very careful not to get it on your clothes as it will discolour them just like bleach. If I hade to make an improvement to the product I would make it a 'foam' instead of liquid spray as it would take longer for it to run off the walls. ...
