Nero brings DMC4 into the High Def world 8 of 8 Ciao Users found the following review helpful
Rating from djshadow1985 4 Stars ()

Advantages Excellent visuals, intuitive controls, good plotline and Nero is welcome addition

Disadvantages Music repetitive and voice acting trite at times. Not huge replay value

The first High Def iteration of the series provides more of the same visceral action, whilst bringing in a new lead character to freshen up the title and allow for some more innovative gameplay.

The plotline revolves around the island of Fortuna, where the residents worship the Devil-God Sparda. Nero is a young man, loosely affiliated to the island's army, the Order of the Sword. He also works tirelessly to rid the island of demons. His world is shattered when Dante (lead character from the previous games) shows up and assassinates the head of the order. The story unfolds from there, as you slice and dice demons, angels and Dante.

The positives are in the gameplay and the graphics. The visuals are stunning, and showcase again the benefits of High Def media. The character models move and function in a life like way. The gameplay is very solid, with intuitive controls that allow for easy combos on foes. Nero, the newcomer, also gains the use of his Devil Bringer arm to throw enemies around, which is both fun and useful, making it probably the best melee weapon in the series to date. Dante is also a playable character in the game, and returns with his various styles which were first encountered in DMC3. The fun of previous DMC titles was in the fighting, and rest assured there's plenty of that here.

The negatives are mainly confined to the sound. The heavy metal music that accompanies the fighting is horribly repetitive , although the cut scene music is much easier on the ears. The voice actors, although good, can be melodramatic and they detract from the well woven and at some points rather emotional story. Also, the HDD takes forever to install the game data, although it does use the time to retell the stories behind the previous games. The game is not overly long, and there is little replay value.

Overall, the game is worth the purchase, though not at a full retail price. Fans of the series will find it enjoyable enough, and newcomers to the series won't be disappointed.
