Westward Ho - A Piece of Heaven on Earth
Review of Devon (England) by adampurcell16

Advantages: Lovely beach, friendly people, cheap as chips
Disadvantages: Not a place for exciting activities

Westward Ho! - What an experience! Went here for a week in the Summer. We stayed at Beachside Holiday Park in Sunny Westward Ho! I tell you what, it was the best time of my life! Everything there seemed to be so perfect. The holiday park is like 20 metres from the beach, and you find yourself getting up really early just to go down there. The scenery is just absolutley stunning and providing the weather is good, you'll see plenty of that! Not a holiday ... Read review

Join the Crowds in Croyde
Review of Croyde Bay Devon by Ali1000

Advantages: Old-world charm; the beach; surf; climbing; views
Disadvantages: Very crowded in the summer; expensive food and drink

Croyde lies on the North Devon coast, a few miles from Barnstaple to the South East and Ilfracombe to the North East. Most well known for its beach and stunning bay, it's one of those sleepy little time-warp villages that get overrun in the summer by hoards of visitors. Guilty as charged, I have been visiting regularly over the last twenty years. ---Getting there--- If you are coming by car, you need to take the A361 off junction 27 of the M5 (about ...
...beach--- The beach at Croyde sits in its own glorious, sweeping bay about half a mile wide. It is sandy, with proper dunes, and shallow, sloping very gently into the sea; this makes it relatively safe for children, and is enhanced by the presence of lifeguards on the beach. It's also very clean and has won the following awards: GOLD David Bellamy Award ENCAMS Seaside Award BLUE FLAG CAMPAIGN Award All of this makes it an ideal spot for a family ... Read review

Self Catering not in that Kitchen!
Review of Watermouth Castle Self-Catering Apartments by hammd1974

Advantages: Unlimited Free access to the castle & grounds
Disadvantages: Very small kitchen

Having written a review for Watermouth Castle, I thought I should add a bit about the accommodation that is available at the Castle. Mid way through last July we visited and stayed at Watermouth Castle in North Devon. The Castle is not only a theme park but also has six apartments as well. Upon arriving at the Castle on the Saturday (as this is change over day) we were warmly welcomed by the owners of the apartments and castle, and were shown to ...
...it takes to get to Watermouth Lodges. This has a small shop in it which sells the basics like milk and bread. It also has a restaurant and bar. The food isn't spectacular but after all you do get what you pay for and this really isn't that expensive. ***** Local Information ***** The nearest large shop is a Somerfield about 3 miles in Ilfracombe, and Ilfracombe is also the nearest town, and has the nearest Hospital. For the nearest train station ... Read review

Family holiday spot
Review of Paignton by ashton08

Advantages: Lots for the family to do
Disadvantages: English weather

Paignton (pronounce Pain-tun) got its name from Paega's Town , the original Celtic settlement. There were a couple of spellings (Peynton, Paington) before the finally settled on the name we know today. History; A village believed to be dated back to 700AD and is mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086. Paington remained a small fishing village until the 19th Century, when in 1837 a harbour was built for the town. The original harbour still exists ...
...was opened in 1859, linking Paignton and Torquay with London. Now operated as a heritage railway. Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway operates from Paignton to Kingswear, passing the sea and the River Dart. -The beautiful Oldway Mansion was built in the 1870s for Isaac Singer, the inventor of the sewing machine.
