Dear Dark Dexter...

Advantages: Interesting concept, unusual writing style
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit slow at first

This is a review originally written for dooyoo. Intro Having decided that I needed some more books to read I consulted the charity book list at work (books for the bargain price of 25p) and came across "Darkly Dreaming Dexter". I was aware that there is a TV series called "Dexter", so consulted Amazon to see if this was the same thing, and found that it was! I haven't ever seen the TV programme but have heard good things about it and decided to give the book a go, as I'd found that "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" was the first in the series (I didn't want to come in having missed something) which is what the first series of the TV programme was based upon. Jeff Lindsay The author Jeff Lindsay (pen name) is American - more can be found about him here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JeffLindsay(writer) He has written ...

Review of Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay

Dysfunctional Dexter

Advantages: Very funny throughout
Disadvantages: storyline lacked bite and punch

Background: About nine months ago I read my first novel by Jeff Lindsay featuring an usual character called Dexter. I was unsure to be honest what I thought of it, so I was keen to try another one and see if the writers? style either grew on me or turned me off his work completely. Admittedly it took me long enough to get round to it. Since then I have even seen an episode of this on television. About the author: Jeff Lindsay was born in America on July 14th 1952. However I should point out this is not his real name, that is Jeffry P. Freunlich. He is best known for his Dexter series of novels, which have now very successfully been transferred as above to television. He has written eight novels, of which the last four have featured Dexter as the lead character. Synopsis of the book: Dexter Morgan is a monster ...

Review of Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay

Advantages: An interesting new perspective taking us inside the thought processes of a killer
Disadvantages: At times Dexter seems to step out of character

Darkly Dreaming Dexter is a disturbing story that delves deeply into the mind of a killer, namely Dexter Morgan. Alternately macabre and wryly amusing, Jeff Lindsay?s debut novel is a thriller that puts us in touch with the sick reasoning that motivates a person to kill and kill and kill again. To the outside world, Dexter Morgan is simply a forensic blood spatter expert working with the Miami Police Department. His foster father, Harry, was an outstanding policeman before he died, his foster-sister is also a detective working Vice with the Miami PD. But the seemingly normal family and upbringing hides the fact that there is much, much more to Dexter than meets the eye. He has a secret ?hobby? he is a serial killer, unable to fight the urge to kill, controlled by an inner voice that he refers to as the Dark Passenger. Thanks to his ...
