As long as your GP agrees I would recommend that you give this a try, particularly if you have problems with your skin. It may just be the things that helps, in nearly all cases of people using it (that I have come across personally) it has ... more
So I'll start with this bit
Listed potential Side Effects:- . bleeding and spotting between periods . headaches . feeling/being sick . sore breasts . depressive moods . loss of interest in sex . changes in weight . chloasma (yellow patches on the skin) . poor tolerance to contact lenses
What do you do? I got a pink packet that it easily set up with the days of the week on so I didn't lose track. You take 1 a day for 21 days and then have a break of 7 days. You should be taking the pill at roughly the same time every day (so every 24 hours)- although you can take it up to 12 hours after the time without it affecting your level of protection. Now it is siggested that 2-3 days into your pill free week you will get your period, but as I experienced this can very much depend on the person.
I was just looking this pill up on google as I used to take it and couldn't remember the name of it. Having had a contraceptive implant for last 2 years I am desperate to get back on this. Since I was about 11 my skin has been awful, it's hereditory as my dad was the same and at nearly 22 my skin is probably just as bad as it has ever been. Certain things I find help a teeny bit to make it less bad. (Plenty of water, no caffeine, light use of sunbed, plenty of fruit and veg, lighting cleansing, toning and moisturising.) But NOTHING has ever come close to this, within a week my skin was the best it has been since I was about 9/10. Within a month - 6 weeks (max) my skin was almost 100% clear. I remember waking up one morning and walking out of the house without out ANY make-up on - something I hadn't done for 9 years at that point and the feeling was amazing.
So why did I change to the implant, because at the time I got a little complacent and forgot to take the odd one or two and my periods became a little irregular (or so I thought at the time). So the doctor recommended the immplant to me.
I may see if the implant is listed on here so I can review it seperately, but incase it isn't I'll give you a few of the differences to this pill (that I have experienced). The first syptoms I got were a weight increase (of a good stone +) with absolutely no change to my diet or exercise/general routine, also my periods stopped completely. In fact I didn't have a period for about a year. But in the last year I have had awful periods on this (one for a full month!!!) and now my period comes when it wants usually for about a day - 2 days every fortnight.
Now on the Dianette I experienced that my periods didn't come at regular times such as 6 weeks between periods and then maybe 3 weeks between. So I found it very hard to monitor (due to the fact that it was my first contraceptive and before that my periods had been practically to the day predictable). In hinesight I would suggest that this was only a slight inconveniance - along with actually remembering to take the pill when you are supposed to.
I have an appointment with my GP next Monday, and fingers crossed she will agree to help me get this awful rod out of my arm and put my back on this again. I will update the review hopefully soon to tell you my experiences.
As long as your GP agrees I would recommend that you give this a try, particularly if you have problems with your skin. It may just be the things that helps, in nearly all cases of people using it (that I have come across personally) it has made at least a reasonable improvement.
I woule be interested as well as to how everybody else has gotten on with this pill. Has anybody expereinced any of the stated side effects with it?
Advantages: Reduced body hair growth, no pregnancy Disadvantages: long breakthrough bleeds (after 8 years of taking), mood swings (after 8 years of taking)
I was on Dianette for 6 years, then after a break of two years have been on again for a year. I originally went on this pill for both contraceptive purposes and to help with my hirsutism (excessive body hair). It did help reduce my hair slightly (although not to a great extent - I was hairy!) and I had no side effects that I could note.
I recently had a short 4 month break, and went back on. For some reason I experienced extended bleeding (lasting ... ...for most of my twenties, Dianette has been a good pill that has helped with issues, although not solved them. I have now had laser surgery to remove my body hair, which is fantastic and now means that the Dianette is not needed to help with this either. I have been diagnosed with depression twice while being on Dianette, but I cannot say whether this is to do with taking the pill or due to the fact that I just had depression. I have also managed ...

*THE PILL*
Dianette was the name of the Pill. I had not heard of it before. Dianette contains Cyproterone Acetate, this is a medicine which attaches itself to Androgen receptors in the skin, and it blocks the receptors so that the Androgen cannot affect the skin. Apparently Androgens stimulate the growth of the skin including the grease-glands and the hairs that grow from it. They also cause the grease-glands to make large amounts of ... ...You must stop taking Dianette if you experience the following:
- Migraines for the first time, more frequent migraines.
- Unusually bad headaches.
- Dizziness or fainting
- Your skin becomes yellow (Jaundice), you develop Hepatitis (Inflammation of the Liver) or if your whole body starts itching.
- Severe depression
There are a few more but this just gives you some ideas.

I started taking Dianette 5 months ago as the current pill I was taking (Cileste) was causing bad acne, and other pills i had tried had given me bad mood swings. I noticed a difference in my skin after about a week, which I was really pleased with. Although i was still getting a few spots, I put it down to not taking my makeup off after a night out! (Dianette wont stop these sorts of spots!) My skin was also less oily and so my makeup stayed on much ... ...most important advantage of taking Dianette was that (when taken properly) it was an effective contraceptive and I did not get pregnant.
However I did experience some disadvantages when taking Dianette. Although my boobs had got bigger, they were quite tender and ached sometimes, but they were not hard. Also it meant I had to buy new bras which fitted!
I wear daily disposable contact lenses, other pills I had taken had listed a sensitivity to contact ...

Advantages: Prevents acne and hersutism Disadvantages: High dose of hormones, a lot of side-effects
I took Dianette for three years. I used it as a contraceptive pill and to help prevent acne. If only I was told the truth behind this pill from my doctors. When I was first prescribed this pill I asked the doctor many questions about side-effects and dosage which he assured me would be okay.
Before taking the pill I read through the very long instruction booklet. I started taking the pill and everything was going okay. My first problem was that ... ...and how it works:
Dianette is a combined pill. This means the main active hormones are anti-androgen and oestrogen. It prevents the release of eggs into the womb. It helps stop the sperm from getting through the womb and therefor to an egg. It also makes the womb lining unsuitable for an egg to grow.
Compared to other pills Dianette has high doses of hormones in it. >>>How to take Dianette:
Dianette is used to treat acne and hersutism. It’s ...

Advantages: Clears skin really well Disadvantages: many side effects, may cause liver damage
...pills with higher estrogen (like dianette or brevinor) are best for acne. For two months i took Dianette religiously though I thought it was useless on my skin.It also made me feel ill for the first three months, but this is a side effect that you are warned about in the notes. Although it did take the full three months, my skin cleared up to be perfect. i can't honestly remember having a spot in the two years that I used Dianette. even my doctor ... ...++ MY OPINION ++
Dianette did not suit my body. It made me depressed, emotional, tearful and very moody. Although at the time I was willing to put up with anything for vanity's sake. Moving to Brevinor was the best decision I made, as I no longer cry at silly things, and it does the same job with my skin, although it did take longer that Dianette to be effective. in my opinion, Dianette should really only be perscribed to very severe cases of acne. ...

Advantages: None so far Disadvantages: Have not stopped bleeding for two weeks. Period type pains.
I started to take Microgynon two weeks ago after a four year break from using the contraceptivepill. I was previously on Dianette and had no problems. This pill however is getting me down. I have been bleeding for two weeks now since I started taking it and as I sit here typing am suffering from cramp type period pains. I am fed up with the bleeding which is clot like at times. I spoke to my doctor last week and he said it is not usual for this type of bleeding but not completely abnormal and to keep taking it. To be honest I am fed up with it. My sex life in non existent now with all this bleeding so in that aspect it is a good contraceptive! ...

I am a 27yr old mother of 1 son ages 20months.
I started taking the Contraceptivepill in 2000, beginning with Microlite and then Dianette. I stopped taking the pills whilst trying for a family in 2005. After the birth of my son in Jan 08, my doctor prescribed me Yasmin in April 2008. A few days after the beginning of my 2nd month (June) I developed a sore swollen leg. I was diagnosed with a severe ileo femeral DVT in my right leg, going from my knee to my chest, i had a localized clot in my other thigh and a PE to the lung. I never had any problems with any of the other pills that I was on going back years. I know numerous people in Ireland were I live that they have had the same problem as me. And my doctor has informed me that it was the Pill that was the cause of my clot. Thanks to this pill and the clots that followed, I am ...
Advantages: None specific to this type of the pill Disadvantages: Unexpected depression, mood swings, panic attacks, spots and weight gain
This is the third contraceptivepill I have taken (first Dianette for five years, then Marvelon for nearly two)- I stopped the last two due to breakthrough bleeding. My doctor told me it might be better on microgynon. I am 4 months into it, the BTB is just as bad and (unlike the other two pills), this has made me MASSIVELY depressed, given me panic attacks and huge mood swings (as well as increased my appetite and made my skin a lot worse). I have never had any sort of problems like this on either of the other contraceptivepills and it has come completely out of the blue. I was going to try and stick it out to six months, incase the side effects faded, but they seem to be getting worse not better and I can't make myself feel this awful for another two months. I am really pleased this wasn't the first pill I was put on (as most people ...
