Having been on microgynon for 4 years I was sick of all the side effects and decided to ask to switch pills. One of he main problems I'd been having was with my skin which had got very greasy and had massive painful breakouts all the time. My doctor talked through the options with me and together we decided that Dianette was my best option.
When I got back I decided to do a search on my new pill to find out what others thought etc. I was quite shocked by what I read as a lot of people have been very negative and so I expected a hard time and even considered not starting to take it at all. I'm glad I did though as it has been a positive experience from the start. I had no problems swapping between the two brands and since then everything has been fine.
It's really easy to take a you just have to take a small tablet each day at about the same time (although this is not important if you are not using it as a contraceptive). The packet is labelled with days of the week so it is easy to keep track of where you are with taking it. I've found its best to take it when I get up in the morning and since I've been doing it this way I've never missed a pill although you can be up to 12 hours late taking it without the contraceptive effects being altered! You have to take one a day for 21 days then have a 7 day break without taking any pills before you start your next pack. A couple of days in to the pill free days you will get your period and I have found that this is a lot less heavy and painful since switching to this brand. It is possible to skip a period by going straight from one pack to another (without the 7 day break) which is great when you are due to come on at a bad time! I've done this several times with no problems at all.
The booklet that comes with the tablets as really detailed and gives you all the information you could ever want to know - including honest info about the risks of things like DVT and breast cancer (which are a risk with all contrceptive pills).
The booklet lists possible side effects as - bleeding and spotting between periods - headaches - feeling/being sick - sore breasts - depressive moods - loss of interest in sex - changes in weight - chloasma (yellow patches on the skin) - poor tolerance to contact lenses I can honestly say the only side effects I've had was a bit of breast tenderness for about the first 3 weeks.
The best thing for me is that this one pill has improved my skin a lot and means that I won't get pregnant. How great is that! Another positive is that it has helped to overcome my problem with hirsutism (excess body hair). I didn't think anything would get rid of this but after a few months on dianette the problem is greatly reduced in that the hair in unwanted places (eg in a line below my belly button) is a lot lighter in colour and softer which is brilliant!
I would recommend dianette to anyone although I strongly suggest that you have a detailed health check and talk things through with your doctor first!

Brilliant first op! I use this too, and it suits me down to the ground. Although, I saw another doctor recently who told me something that I wasn't fully aware of. The new thought on dianette is that its not healthy to be on it for more than a year / 2 years because its a heavy oestrogen based pill & could 'potentially' cause damage. So she recommended that I not stay on it for too long. Jami xx

Not a product I'm ever likely to use, but a very good first op. Welcome.
Advantages: Helps skin to clear somewhat, prevents pregnancy if taken correctly, prevents period pains. Disadvantages: Weight gain, mood swings, varicose veins (these may not affect everyone but there is a possibility of those side effects and more).
