When my daughter was born I decided to get clued up more on health and safety issues within the home. On reading an issue of a parenting magazine it stressed that most children get injured within the home and that one thing that parents aren't that aware of is carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tastless gas which can be toxic if for example your gas water heater or gas stove doesn't have adequate ventilation. This gas can accumulate and can start with headaches and mild flue symptoms and can lead to death. Those more at risk are children, pregnant women, and the elderly and exposure can lead to the need to take long term medication. This issue was brought to public attention in Coronation Street..remember Rita !!! The thought of my child maybe being at risk prompted me to buy carbon monoxide ...

the gas industry and the kitemark also reassures me of the quality of the unit. I think every home with gas or solid fuel heating or appliances should be fitted with a CO detector with an audible alarm and this small battery powered unit would also be suitable for caravaners using calor gas bottles. HOW DO I DETECT IT ? --------------------------------- Detection can be very easy if you purchase the right detectors I use Tesco Carbon Monoxide dot's which are a small sticky square that you place on or near your boiler and should there be a Carbon Monoxide leak the dot will start to darken and turn black.
