Diet Coke, also known as Diet Coca-Cola, is a sugar free drink that acts as an alternative to its father drink Coca Cola. It comes in both bottles and cans and large packs of either can be purchased for bargain prices. Bottles usually cost £1.20 in my local shops (although my shops are a little over-priced) and cans tend be around the 60p mark. A can consists of 330ml like pretty much all other canned drinks which is just enough to quench your thirst.

Not only is the drink sugar free, but it also has only 0.5kcal. For this reason lots of people tend to drink it as a kind of diet drink, which I'm sure you can do if you so want to, but in my opinion that's a little counter productive as despite lacking obviously 'bad' ingredients, it is still fundamentally a fizzy drink and so water would probably be much more hydrating. As a kind of replacement for sugar, the drink does include aspartame, sweeteners and caffeine. I personally am not too concerned with this but thought it was worthy of note just in case. The caffeine however is a great addition as it makes the drink much more refreshing and gives me a little burst of energy whenever I drink it.

The taste is cola flavoured and is much like regular coke, but perhaps less sweet and doesn't leave a coating on your teeth which I tend to get with ordinary Coca Cola. For this reason I think it's a great alternative fizzy drink.

The fizziness of the drink isn't too overwhelming which is something I'm glad about as often I feel bloated after drinking other well known fizzy drinks and sometimes a little sluggish. When the drink is left out a little too long and the fizziness wears off, the taste is pretty horrible so be sure to finish the drink soon.

I buy a pack of 8 for £3.50 in my local supermarket, and sometimes a pack of 12 for about £7 which is pretty reasonable considering the price of a single can. As well as this, cans can be recycled which is another useful part of the drink. It is suggested you drink Diet Coke 'ice cold' which is how I personally enjoy it, but it still tastes pretty good at a normal temperature also.

Summary: A great fizzy drink
