I am a professional photographer and use a 20D as one of my backups. This is an excellent semi pro camera that is user friendly enough for any beginner. With image quality suitable for printing up to A2 from a RAW file. I would strongly recommend shooting in RAW wherever possible as the JPEG compression can be very limiting for post shoot editing and any image correction you may need to apply. This is a great compact camera, as I write in October 2008 it still has the best low light performance of any compact. Don't let the fact that it only has 6MP (low by today's standards) put you off.
