The SLR Camera of the FUTURE!!!
Review of Canon EOS 40D by Mr.Freeman

Advantages: Everything, it's perfection in its most perfect form.
Disadvantages: If you drop, you pay the price!

...miracle in SLR technology. The Canon EOS focuses back to the 'old school' photographers world and can help even an amateur into a new dimension of imagery. Memory storage is not a problem with a fully accessible and easy to use flash space. Weighing less than a kg, the camera can be carried with minimal effort to any location (be it jungle to skyscraper). A fully adjustable shutter speed can help you capture those city lights to moving people. ... Read review

Canon EOS 400D
Review of Canon EOS 400D by montmorillonite

Advantages: Low cost entry to Digital SLR photography. Compatible with all Canon Ef and Ef-s lenses
Disadvantages: Manual exposure fiddly, Kit lens good for cost, but not high-quality

Review EOS 400d The canon 400D is a good camera - for the price it's a great camera. It's relatively compact; lightweight; comes with an adequate lens; has programmed settings for novices - like portrait and landscape modes; but also offers manual control of apertures, shutter speeds, white balance, ISO… so that the more experienced photographers can have fun and be a little more creative. One item to note if you are upgrading from a digital compact ...
...on newer, or more sophisticated Canon bodies, as your skill increases. If you have around £400 to spend on a digital SLR this is certainly one to consider. With this camera and a quality lens you should be able to produce images up to A3 size. For the price and for a first SLR I highly recommend it. ... Read review

Expensive lenses
Review of Canon EOS 450D by crware

Advantages: Excellent build quality, superb CMOS sensor, low noise at high ISO.
Disadvantages: Poor kit lenses

...shortcomings of investing in this Canon system. Given the superb performance of the CMOS image sensor, particularly at high sensitivity settings, the lenses offered by Canon as 'kit' lenses are somewhat of a let-down and disappointment for the following reasons: The camera body does not have image stabilisation. If you wish to have this facility each lens you buy has to have it built in. This makes the lenses inherently more expensive than similar ...
...of polarising filters difficult. Canon do not supply lens hoods with their lenses and, unless you opt for cheap alternatives, are quite expensive to add on. To get the best from the resolving capabilities of this excellent camera one really needs to go for the more up-market Canon lenses and they don't come cheap. So beware, you may end up spending quite a lot of money getting this camera kitted out to your satisfaction. ... Read review

G9 Powershot
Review of Canon PowerShot G9 by covehithe

Advantages: Quality, Quality, Quality !
Disadvantages: None

This replaced an old Nikon Coolpix and was a quantum leap in both quality of build and features. The G9 has a solid feel about it and felt comfortable in the hand. The 3" LCD screen was remarkable in the quality of the display and made taking pictures a lot easier than most other compact cameras. I use the viewfinder more from habit and found it was clear (maybe a touch small). The controls were close at hand and easy to use. The time lag between ...
...was very small. The time lag can be critical if you want to capture a moving or changing view. The menu offers a large number of shooting modes which I now use to the full and steer clear of the Auto setting. I resisted using the RAW mode and just dropped the pictures into my Apple "Aperture" software without the need to fire up Photoshop. I have now had the camera for 5 weeks and taken just over 1600 pictures ( 1 Wedding and a Holiday!!) and I ... Read review

wowza.....! I love it
Review of Canon EOS 5D by chrisplatt999

Advantages: Superb handling 1st class quality pictures. Real feel good factors
Disadvantages: bit heavy compared to other lightweight DSLR and a bit more complicated

Got this for my Christmas self pressie as an upgrade from 350D. Probably not 4 times as good (comparing price to price) but so much better nevertheless. Seemed a better upgrade than going to 20D or 30D. More complicated to set up and use but thats half the fun of photography for an amateur like me. I just love gadgets and playing - great!! If you take in RAW then everything can be improved after all. I am still learning on this camera The picture ...
...colours are sharp and crisp The full frame is more than a bonus. With a wide angle lens you can almost see behind you!! On my old 350D I had to deliberately move the camera down so as not to cut off the top of the subjects heads. Now I have to move it up so as not to have too much clear space above the subject! Perhaps the only complaint is that with some pictures regardless of which lens I use at the extremes of the focal length top and bottom ... Read review
