Buying Guide »

Introduction

Long gone are the days of 36 shot films and disposable flashes. The evolution of the age of the digital camera has allowed novice and expert photographers alike to review, edit and improve the quality of their pictures. Be it for the family album pic or the artistic landscape shot, the Ciao Shopping Guide to Digital Cameras gives you overview of some of the major features to look for when making your purchasing decision.

Price + Size

As you would expect, the average price of a digital camera can vary highly depending on the specifications you are looking for. For a camera that provides a basic offering, you can spend as little as £50, but expect the quality of your photos to suffer as a result. While improvements to the number of megapixels offered by cheaper cameras have been made, buyers need to look at many other factors if they want a camera that takes the perfect shot. The lack of a decent zoom, battery life, decent flash and sufficient image and editing features will all have a detrimental effect on the final photo quality. The better you want your camera to perform in these particular areas, the more you will have to spend. Good quality digital cameras will cost between £150 and £200, with the best products starting at just over £300.

Wow - Great performance and HD video

Advantages: HD video and fantastic picture quality
Disadvantages: None

As a professional photographer I would have no hesitation in recommending this camera to anyone at all. Suberb features and HD video. Battery life for me was really good but HD video really fills the memory cards quickly, worth having a few. It is an expesive camera but it is worth bearing in mind that this is top of the range for point and shoot and you really do get what you pay for. It is packed full of features and the display is simply superb. ...

comfortable and accessible chamber

Advantages: Large zum, good colour rendition, rapid and universal in the use.
Disadvantages: it is not standard MINI-USB, absence of RAW-format

Excellent camera in all respects. A metalicheskiy corps, good assembling, pleased. A screen is large and bright. A lot of tuning. There is the separate button of correction of display on a brightness. Comfortably to include, comfortably to look over otsnyatoe. Very quite good zum -объектив on all focal distances. Excellent stabilizator. Video on the television set of format of FHD looks at oneself fine. There are little noises at such zume, ...
...to do bad fotku. On long focal it is possible to get the good washed out background after an object (well for portraits). Failings, that the hand modes are not fully (little hand tuning). In any event it is an optimum model for journeys on rest. I recommend tem, who searches quite good aparat at moderate price. ...

Really Impressive

Advantages: Good for amateurs
Disadvantages: Quite expensive

I bought this camera for my partner as I have an older version of the camera myself. The camera is great really compact and stylish. The picture quality is really really good, the colour is always bright and the photos never seem to blur even when taking a motion shot. Its got lots of more advanced features for better photos but you can also just point and shoot. The price of the camera is probably a little off putting but shop around and you can ...

Only lasted 11 months

Advantages: easy to use, bright, colourful
Disadvantages: does not last, switches on too easily which uses up battery

I purchased this camera for my daughter for a Christmas present last year, based upon the reviews I read on the internet, and she loved it. It is very easy to use and looks bright and funky. As it was an expensive gift, she has really looked after it, and I purchased spare batteries and memory cards for her to be able to use it regularly. Unfortunately it has not lasted - I bought it in October, ready to give her in December 08, so she has only actually ...
...I purchased more new batteries and a new battery charger, but none of these make any difference. I contacted Fuji, who wanted me to pay £58 to send it for repair or pay more money to upgrade to a new model. What a nightmare - it has totally put me off buying Fuji products in the future. ...
