What digital piano not to buy: The Casio CPS-7
Review of Casio CPS-7 by
maria321
Advantages: its better than a toy one
Disadvantages: tinny sound, not 88 keys, no weighted keys, hard to get technical support
...of the keys didnt work. Casio was not helpful on the phone, and after a lot of persisting they promised to pick the piano up and repair it. Seven years later I am still waiting (This happened in Spain where I live). The sound is not very good, and I now know that tinny sound is a general trademark of Casio. Also is only has 76 keys, which at the time may seem not important, and then it really is. The lack of weight in keys is probably the worst feature ...

Korg Blimey
Review of Korg SP-100 by
mojobob
Advantages: Full-length, nice key action
Disadvantages: Not a real piano!
...near - I pair this Korg up with a Nord rack (better piano/organ sounds).
On saying that, I will be using this Korg as part of a piano/vocal duo and know that it is light enough to be wheeled about in it's flight case (I'm a girl, the boys I know carry it with even more ease).
If you're looking to replace a piano for gigs, this is a satisfactory substitute and much easier to transport!
The piano sound is really quite nice for an electric piano, ... ...to grips with, or to use with external racks for a wider variety of sounds (I've used both a JV and the current Nord rack with this piano).;

AIČ Synthesis System
Polyphony:

A good no frills keyboard
Review of Roland EP-77 by
peterb666
Advantages: A compact substitue for a piano
Disadvantages: Nothing really
I have interited a Roland EP-77 from my mother. I don't know mich about digital pianos, but it seems to do everying you would need of a machine that is intended as a substitute for the real thing. It sounds like a piano (to me), it sort of feels like a piano, but it is a lot smaller.
This is a neat and unassuming digital keyboard that would make a good substitute for a real piano if you lack the room. It is essentially free from most gimmicks and ... ...headphone sockets. Best of all, it doesn't look or feel like a toy that probable better describes many other keyboards.
I like the feel of the keys. I guess it is supposed to mimic a real piano. I wouldn't say that they have suceeded 100% but it is good enough. Recommended. ...

Experience with Roland EP-77
Review of Roland EP-77 by
Lirybka
Advantages: modifiability, portable
Disadvantages: need of electricity
...really started to like on Roland EP-77 it was the fact that it is portable. - Several times it happened to me that I couldn't play the big piano at certain occasions because I cannot just put this instrument into my pocket and like this to take it with me from home. With Roland EP-77 it was solved. About recording your tunes it is no longer a dream even with some different sounds (strings, bells, organ), you can do that directly by cable - without ... ...a big real instrument, then Roland EP-77 means for you just an artificial "tonemaker". And really, it doesn't have as big differentiating of the keystroke as the real piano. --- How to get it ---
My parents paid for it almost 500 GBP. After time, we needed another one because we found out that it is so practical.., at that time the price was already less. Nowadays (years after) I guess it is even less. Go to Amazon or Ebay and check out the actual ...

Supercallifragilisticexpiclavinova
Review of Yamaha Clavinova CLP240 by
Rogerbyname
Advantages: Somewhat portable, never goes out of tune, volume control
Disadvantages: Not the real thing
This piano is a great substitute to the real thing. What you lose in some areas you make up in convenience and reliability. You have a piano, harpsichord, two types of organ and other sounds to try. You can control the volume and plug in the headphones if you want to stay on good terms with the neighbours. It will never go out of tune. It is easier to move and will fit easily through your doorway. And if you are not at all good at playing, you can ... ...finish looks a bit plasticky but will wipe clean easily and it comes with a stool and some music.
I bought mine second hand for 750 pounds from a shop. But it had never been used - the previous owner had taken it home and been told by his wife that it was not coming in the house. If you are a purist, this is not for you. It does not ring like a piano should when the strings are tight and in tune and the finish is not proper wood. But given the advantages ...
