Excellent camera, but Excellent image qualdisappointing camcorder
Advantages: Excellent image quality, high ISO, high resolution Disadvantages: HD video feature is disappointing- short battery life when in video mode, unsatisfactory FPS
Canon EOS 500D is my first ever digital SLR (Single Lens Reflection) camera. The image quality is considerably better than all the other [non-SLR] cameras I have used so far. Its noise reduction capability is excellent. This is very important, especially for a camera which boosts such high resolution (a whopping 15 megapixels) and high ISO (max 12800!). When coupled with a few good lenses (from the vast selection of lens available from Canon itself, ... ...the famous mid/high-end SLR - Canon 5D mark ii]. CMOS is the equivalent of films used in mechanical cameras. In general, the larger the CMOS is, the better the image quality will be. A so-called “full frame” SLR will have a CMOS that is equal in size to the films used in the legacy mechanical cameras – 36mm x 24mm. Canon EOS 500D, however, is only equipment with a 22.2 x 14.8mm CMOS. 4. Another implication of the abovementioned point is that the ...

A great buy for a budding photographer!
Advantages: Size, image quality, price. Disadvantages: A Lot of menus - could be confusing to new users.
...wanted an upgrade from the Nikon digital coolpix cameras that I have had in the past. I tried out a number of DSLR cameras and chose the D5000 based on its 12.3 mega pixels and its vari-angle monitor (great for self portraits!) Since buying the camera, I have tested it out rather thoroughly and I have to say, I'm ecstatic with its performance and image quality. Using the auto point and shoot mode, the camera's auto focus is lightening fast which ... ...view feature also helps you to capture a high quality picture with very little effort. One thing that had concerned me about buying a DSLR was the amount of time it would take to prepare a shot. I didn't want to be struggling to adjust settings for a quick snap, but the auto mode takes care of this. The 19 scene modes are also very helpful for photographers like me who are just getting started with DSLRs. There is a scene selection for nearly any ...

Nikon D3000
Advantages: Small and light. Disadvantages: None so far.
...that embodies some older proven Nikon technology like the 10.2 megapixel CCD from the D60/D80 combined with a new 11 point focus system and a shutter mechanism tested to 100,000 cycles. The body is small, perhaps too small for those with shovel sized hands but it is well made and feels very solid. With a camera this size there is no excuse to leave it at home. The kit lens produces excellent results and is a good starting point at least. Battery ... ...plentiful recording medium. As a first step into DSLR photography this is your camera whilst for those more experienced photographers looking for something more discreet and portable this is it. There are no fancy whistle and bells it is just a good straightforward camera....what more do you need? ...

My "go to" camera. Brilliant little piece of technology
Advantages: Good quality build, incredible picture quality, textured grip is nice, hot shoe a nice touch Disadvantages: Interchangeable lenses would be nice but it wouldnt be so compact then!
First off, if you are looking for SLR quality in a compact body, this is what you want. The picture quality is just beautiful. Colours are sharp, clear and defined. Shadows are deep and dark, the ISO is rather noise free considering its a small sensor compact. The build quality of this camera is good. Its weighty without being excessive, the protruding grip gives a good handle for your right hand while operating the shutter and the settings, and ... ...Battery life is incredible. I must of took at least 1000 shots with this without depleting the battery. The added hotshoe on the top is a nice touch although i cant imagine most people will carry a flashgun with their point and shoot camera. But its still a nice touch and a nifty feature for owners of a DSLR looking for a good compact with lots of features. Its as close to DSLR quality as you can get in a compact. Everybody knows Canons image quality ...

Brilliant camera for the money well worth it very versatile
Advantages: large resolution, great photos, easy to use, great battery life, great fun! Disadvantages: obviously its not a £2000 plus camera
...EOS 500D and the other Nikon D5000. this was a very hard choice I found that while playing around with all 3 in shops the D90 had the best video, and more vibrant pictures than the Canon. but that still left me with the two nikons the only thing that separated them in my books was the screens the larger screen on this D90 or the smaller lower resolution on the D5000. and as i like to take lots of photos and look at them i went for the D90. I have ... ...normal photos holiday snaps walks general purpose and it never fails to deliver even for me who has never read a photography book had a lesson. i find that it is able to deliver pictures of great quality and clarity even when a novice like me moves from the standard modes into the manual modes. the lens that comes with it is great. just what you want with a camera of this budget. it covers a good range and focuses quickly but when in dark conditions ...
