A great camera for the money
Advantages: Economical on batteries, good features Disadvantages: Weight
This was the first digital camera I ever bought, and for a technophobe like me, it was easy to understand and get started with. It is extremely economical on batteries, has a lot of great functions and takes good quality pictures, although the pixelation is only 3.1, which falls below the requirements of most stock-photo sites that I contribute to. I even managed to produce a couple of award winners! Some digital cameras only have an LCD screen and ... ...I like that with the Minolta you can switch between LCD and viewfinder dependant on the lighting conditions. I like the camera's somewhat spaceage look and it is easy to grasp it firmly and take a steady shot. However, it is somewhat heavy and carrying it around on holiday eventually made my shoulder sore. It also has a basic video function, but it cannot record sound. The memory card can be read by any standard memory card reader. A great camera ...

Looking for more than a silver box of tricks?
Advantages: Great lens, light, fast, grip and features. Disadvantages: Build quality, lack of support...
I bought this camera because I was looking for a mid range point and shoot that was fast enough to capture my interest in motorsport and offer me the options of a more advanced camera for other situtations.
Overall I have to say that for what I wanted this camera has given me what I need but it hasn't been without its problems. The good bits first, I like motorsport and this camera has a very quick start up and some good sport shooting modes which ... ...the picture quality is good but suffers the usual grainy look when shooting in the dark although the flash is pretty effective in an average room, I would guess up to 6 metres. The lens is great with a quick zoom and image stablisers that work pretty well at all but the longest zoom. I particularly like the SLR type grip and all the necessary buttons are within easy reach. The screen is pretty good but use of the digital view finder leaves much to ...

I love my Z1!
Advantages: Very cute design, easy to use, great picture quality, fantastic value for money. Disadvantages: Batteries don't last as long as they could, quite a big camera
I have to start by saying that I really know very little about digital (or any sort) cameras. A friend of mine got a Z2 and the pictures she got with it looked pretty good, so when I saw one on eBay within my price-range, I thought I'd treat myself. Design-wise, it makes me very happy. It's a really cute-looking camera - that shouldn't be a huge deciding factor, but it's nice to have something that looks nice! It's also very comfortable to hold and ... ...if you need to. Although it's very much designed for right-handed users - something I didn't notice until a left-handed friend pointed it out to me! I originally had problems with the flash - namely finding it! Because it was a second-hand camera with no manual (and possibly because I don't know much about cameras!) I didn't know that he flash was hidden just above the lens and needs to be popped up before you can use it. This might be very obvious ...

Very good Intermediate Camera for bargain price
Advantages: Sharp images, full manual controls, excellent value for money Disadvantages: Bulky, cannot be used as webcam, need tripod when using full zoom
I bought a refurbished unit from Jessops for just over £100. Have had absolutely no problems with it and it takes sharp shots. You can use automatic settings or use any of the preset settings to take shots and even use the fully manual settings to get the right shot. It not being an slr in the full sense of the word, it sure is close to one. It may take a bit of time to get used to it afterall, there are so many settings which they've tried to tuck ... ...need a tripod when taking shots using the full zoom as it is difficult to get a sharp shot at such level of zoom power. 10x zoom is no joke. It's really powerful. The Flash is excellent and has a rather good range and takes some really nice shots at night with a tweak of the settings. It also has a wide angle, bracketting and multishot settings. You can also chose between 4 picture sizes and enable the digital zoom as well (which I hardly ever need).

A Light and Reliable Companion
Advantages: A light, easy to use, full of features and semi-professional camera Disadvantages: Battery life and electronic viewfinder
I bought my Minolta Dimage 7i about 3 years ago, but only started getting really acquainted with it about a year and a half later. I was travelling a lot and I prefer to use film cameras when I travel and for "serious" photographic work, as I provide a couple of Photo Libraries with images, and most of them still prefer slides, although many do accept digital images of high quality and resolution.
A big reason for not using it more often at first ... ...bad at all.
The Minolta Dimage 7i has a lot of features, I would say too many almost, but if you like to play around, they are fun, although I do not use them much. The features which I find to be the most useful are the Aperture and shutter priority and the full manual mode (the aperture range is f2.8-f3.5/f8 and the shutter speed range is bulb at 30 sec for the slowest and 1/2000sec for the fastest). It has an exposure compensation of -2 EV to ...
