Brilliant camera for the money well worth it very versatile
Advantages: large resolution, great photos, easy to use, great battery life, great fun! Disadvantages: obviously its not a £2000 plus camera
...EOS 500D and the other Nikon D5000. this was a very hard choice I found that while playing around with all 3 in shops the D90 had the best video, and more vibrant pictures than the Canon. but that still left me with the two nikons the only thing that separated them in my books was the screens the larger screen on this D90 or the smaller lower resolution on the D5000. and as i like to take lots of photos and look at them i went for the D90. I have ... ...normal photos holiday snaps walks general purpose and it never fails to deliver even for me who has never read a photography book had a lesson. i find that it is able to deliver pictures of great quality and clarity even when a novice like me moves from the standard modes into the manual modes. the lens that comes with it is great. just what you want with a camera of this budget. it covers a good range and focuses quickly but when in dark conditions ...

Nikon D3000
Advantages: Small and light. Disadvantages: None so far.
...that embodies some older proven Nikon technology like the 10.2 megapixel CCD from the D60/D80 combined with a new 11 point focus system and a shutter mechanism tested to 100,000 cycles. The body is small, perhaps too small for those with shovel sized hands but it is well made and feels very solid. With a camera this size there is no excuse to leave it at home. The kit lens produces excellent results and is a good starting point at least. Battery ... ...plentiful recording medium. As a first step into DSLR photography this is your camera whilst for those more experienced photographers looking for something more discreet and portable this is it. There are no fancy whistle and bells it is just a good straightforward camera....what more do you need? ...

This is a good all-rounded low budget digital SLR
Advantages: fully manual control, lighter and smaller than many slrs Disadvantages: too large for snapshot camera
...is not compatible with all Nikon lenses due to the fact that to make it lighter Nikon removed to built-in autofocus, so watch out for this when buying lenses. The camera has standard auto and pre-programmed modes such as sports and night modes and also has shutter priority or aperture priority modes in addition to fully manual. Unlike other Nikons, the D40 has only one adjustment wheel for the aperture and shutter speed which means to change them ... ...modes, which can be irritating at first, but is quick to get used to. The camera replay screen at the back of the camera is generously sized allowing a good view of the photograph with the option to zoom in to see if detail has been captured. The screen also allows adjustments through a menu system of image quality, ISO speed, shooting mode etc. as well as editing photos i.e. cropping, monochrome, filters. Image quality is good and can be shot as ...

A great all-rounder
Advantages: Image quality, low light ability, speed, ease of use Disadvantages: Cost, need to buy grip for 8fps
...5D Mk II or the Nikon D700 (although they are all still too expensive).
The good news is that there is not a turkey among them; the image quality is fantastic with all three (I only quote from the ludicrous number of reviews I have sadly read).
My choice was ultimately driven by the way in which I use my camera rather than the spec sheets, as the three cameras all point at a different type of photographer. This camera would better suit the intermediate ... ...On all those counts the Nikon is probably the best package. The Sony and Canon can resolve more detail for landscapes or architecture and can be blown up larger, they probably have the edge in studio / stock photography work.
The Nikon produces skin tones beautifully and is the best performer in low light, although the Canon comes very close (again from my reading, I don't own one).
It is worth mentioning the low light ability of this camera and ...

Advantages: Very small and light, wide range of Nikon lenses Disadvantages: Slow Autofocus

The Camera Itself
Here it is, the slightly higher than entry level digital SLR from Nikon. On paper it seems very similar to many other similar priced cameras. So in this review, I dig a little deeper to see if there is enough difference to put you out of pocket.
First thing you will notice is the size of the body. It is impressively small, very good for travel photography and in general circumstances. The bodies’ grip ... ...situations.
Finally
This camera and lens package is definitely an ideal recommendable kit. Most of the problems described can easily be lived with in most shooting situations. The large range of lenses from Nikon ensure there is definitely the right one to suit you. ...
