Advantages: Small, heats the fulll room, bargain price Disadvantages: takes a whle to heat up
B&Q OilFilledRadiator
Bought one of these around 6months ago our heating wasn't going to be working for a couple of weeks so bought this for the bedroom. Went to B&Q as knew they had quite a selection didn't want a huge one as we don't really have much room in the bedroom.
We bought it as a replacement for the halogen that we had been using which the dogs kept walking past and singing their tails in.
It takes quite a while to heat up even when it is on full power but once it is warm it is more than enough to warm our bedroom up. It has various settings of heat so once the room is warm you can turn it down which is a really useful feature, the dial for doing this how ever does not have numbers on it and I do think it would benefit it if it did so you could turn it down a set amount and know which setting you usually use ...
Advantages: good amount of heat Disadvantages: takes a while to heat room up
Having no central heating and no money to install it, I had to buy heaters for every room in my house - enter the Challenge OilFilled Column Radiator.
I had already bought DimplexOilFilled Column Radiators for my bedrooms which are double the price of the Challenge OilRadiator but needed one for my hall.
I bought the Challenge OFCR (OilFilled Column Radiator) from Argos on sale at #19.99 and is normally #29.99. It has two options of heat settings and a temperature dial which you can adjust accordingly.
The OFCR is on wheels which you have to put on yourself (which takes a minute or so) so it is easily moved around if required. Its asort of light beige colour with bright orange dials for heat and temperature control which is not the best colour option for them to go for!
The Dimplex OFCR is the same design - on wheels ...
Advantages: Quiet, thermostat Disadvantages: Takes time to heat the room. needing to be kept on all the time
with a very quiet click, again making it suitable for quiet rooms. Unlike other fluid filled electric radiators the thermostat on the OFX range measures the temperature of the panel instead of the surrounding air, this allows constant low level heating if required. There is a "Pilot light" to the right of the thermostat indicating when the radiator is plugged in regardless of wether the radiator is heating or not.
Using the heater, I found it is best to keep them on a low/med setting 24/7 as it took a considerable amount of time to heat my 20 x 18 x 9 ft room but once the room was heated this it was kept at a constant temperature, the thermostat clicking on and off as necessary. As the panel doesn't get any hotter than a standard radiator I would say it is safe to use with children or the infirm. ...
