I started to develop a dry skin condition shortly after a stressful period. My GP recommended DiproBase cream and gave me a prescription. The cream can be bought over the counter and comes in 2 sizes 50g (about £3) and 500g (about £10).
I picked up a large tub from the chemist; the cream emollient is produced by Schering - Plough a company based in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The tub (see photo) has a pump action top which makes it easier to dispense a controlled amount. You are advised to apply a thin layer of cream to the skin and massage thoroughly into the affected area. It is for external use only.
YOU ARE ADVISED TO KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN - IT CAN BE USED BY PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS.
Store below 25 degrees centigrade.
The white cream smells slightly of oil which is not surprising considering the contents (see below) this is a bit off putting. A small amount spreads a long way, using it on my hands I found even after 5 minutes of massaging into my skin they were still a little tacky. Applied elsewhere it is less of a problem and is light enough to be worn without much hindrance, so far it has caused no permanent damage to my clothes.
HOW IT WORKS - It works by providing a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface.
CONTENTS
The product does not contain any active ingredients as such but does include: chlorocresol (as an antimicrobial preservative), cetomacrogol, cetostearyl alcohol (as emulsifying agents), liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, phosphoric acid, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, purified water.
I got mine in June 2005 the use by date is 2009 which is great.
For the price it is good value for money, if it did not smell off putting it would be great. I have seen it for sale on the Internet; it has certainly helped to sooth and smooth my dry skin.
