Recently decided to shop around to reduce the price of my life insurance and ended up insuring 2 of us (my wife and I) for the price I had been paying for just me with the same level of cover for very slightly less cost. I found directline insurance online and went through the very easy online quotation procedure. An initial price was given onscreen then a representative called the following day to finalise the details and price. Using financial reports, and surfing "best buy" sites Direct Line consistantly came in the top 5 products, in terms of obtaining a defined amount of cover for the best value. In actually applying for quotes Direct Line were indeed the best value Additionally the ease of use of their web page compares favourably to other sites, in that the quote is delivered on-line (unlike sites of conventional insurers), the quote is held allowing you to check other options and return to direct line I would reccommend direct line to anyone seeking single life cover ... more

I have been a direct line customer for over 5 years and had not experienced any problems until recently when a direct debit failed. Direct Line were not able to tell me why it had not worked (not entirely surprised, but I had checked with the bank before phoning and all was fine as far as they were concerned). Direct Line's response was to demand the full premium up front, or cancel the policy - not liking to be threatened, I cancelled the policy. I am currently in the throes of making my first subsantial claim with Direct Line Insurance after the theft of my vehicle. The vehicle has not been found, the police have closed the file on it and yet, two months on, I am still exchanging letters and phone calls with Direct Line in an attempt to get them to pay out on the policy. I have been a customer with them for 10+ years and, to date, have thankfully never had to make a claim. I was insured with Privilege, a subsidiary of Direct Line. My car was written off following a collision with a car insured by Direct Line. The other party accepted full and complete liability. You would think that would make things simple, but it did not. I had to deal with six (6!) different departments, none of whom would talk to each other. None of them were helpful or constructive. They lost letters, (and faxes!) their replies were form letters that failed to cover the points raised. Even their 24hr emergency telephone line failed to operate.
