Friendly call centre, and staff speak English, which is something that seems strange to mention. However, an increasing amount of call centres seem to be operated in non-UK countries. Some of them speak good English, others do not. I have been with Direct Line car insurance for over two years now, and I couldn't recommend them enough. My new car has been unlucky in having a couple of scooter riders bash into the back of it. They have all been correctly insured, and I haven't had to make a claim against my own policy yet!
My last quote wasn't the cheapest, and it was only a few pounds out from the Virgin quote I had got. However, to avoid all the pain in changing companies I thought I'd best stick with Direct Line. However, I have had a mobile phone from Virgin, and if their reliable past service is anything to go by, I wouldn't have made a mistake if I had changed.
I would definitely recommend Direct Line, especially if you're a young male driver. Though my choice of cars has always been pretty sensible and reliable, my under 500 quote for my Vauxhall Astra was extremely good, compared to some of the other 700+ quotes I had got from other car insurance companies.
