Advantages Advantages Cover for emergencies or illness which could be very expensive otherwise

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cover only limited to a certain amount and a certain time frame on my policy

We always used to use Pet Insurance for our cats and were loyal to Pet Plan, one of the leading Pet Insurance providers for many years. However following the death of our cat (at the time) and a visit to the vets with our dog, we decided to take out a pet insurance policy on our dog. Doing price and quality comparisons between Pet Plan and other Pet Insurance providers, soon made us realise we were paying well over the odds with Pet Plan, despite their excellent services. In the end we decided to go with Direct Line for our preferred provider and this is our experience so far. Getting started ... more

    Advantages Advantages Small outlay.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ongoing conditions not covered after 12 months

Everyone has insurance of some sort, be it for their homes, their cars,or even their life, but how many people bother to insure their pets. It is easy to presume when cuddling your new puppy or kitten (or parrot or budgie if you are so inclined) that they are perfectly healthy and will not require veterinary intervention for many years, but what happens if this is not the case? Puppies, especially pedigrees, often inherit specific problems. Cocker Spaniels are known to be prone to ear conditions, Pekinese can be chesty and Alsatians can have rear limb problems and these conditions can present ... more

Advantages Advantages Covers you for any unexpected bills

Disadvantages Disadvantages Covers you only to a certain limit

I decided to take out pet insurance for my 2 border collies. I browsed a few websites and finally decided on Direct Line, partly because I already have car insurance with them and party because their deal seemed quite good. I ordered my pet insurance online and this was very easy to do, the policy could not be used until after 14 days after I had applied for it (I assume this is to save Direct Line having customers singing up at the last minute when they know they are going to have an expensive vet bill. The online process was very quick and simple, they asked for vvarious details about my ... more

Advantages Advantages Good price, covers the basic and there are other options

Disadvantages Disadvantages It only rstricts to 12 months of treatmentand you've got to wait for 14 days for the policy to take effect.

If you got animals like we do and you treat them like we do, better than humans then I’m sure you’ll understand me completely. Some people like animals better than humans and feel that they should give their animals the best treatment possible. But keeping a pet is a rather expensive business: Cat-food, full of vitamins, giving shining coat (and fat fleas), long life, etc. Flea sprays, shampoos, combs, worm tablets, toys, beds, treats, videos for them to watch when we are at work during the day (yes I fell for that one as you would have expected) and many other things which we buy ... more

Advantages Advantages Vet bills can be claimed back

Disadvantages Disadvantages Vet bills can be horrendously high.

Having your pussy un-insured, or any other loved pet uninsured is total madness. You never know when the unexpected will happen, and your pet will need assistance from the vet. I had no insurance, and to be truthful, having had cats for the last 20+ years, have never had the need for it. Until last night that is. Oh how I wish I had listened to other peoples suggestions that I consider it. I will tell you what happened, and maybe if I just save one person from making the same mistake as I, it will somehow soften the blow. Last year I found a kitten in a sack near my home on the bank of a lake ... more
