I have to say that I have only had two accidents in my life and the first went through without any problems. The second is however a different story.
In April of 2003 I was driving back home for the Easter. I had just past through some traffic lights when the traffic in front came to a standstill. Just as the traffic was about to move away again a woman drove in excess of 40 mph into the back of my car.
The police were called and statements were taken. As with the last claim I thought that this one would be straight forward, but I had not counted on the womans insurance comapny being Driect Line!!!
The woman has been issued a formal written warning from the Police for driving without due care and attention so it would be safe to say that the accident was her fault.
Direct Line it is safe to say have not been helpfull in the slightest when it has come to making payments to myself or more suprisingly my insurance company.
It is now 16 months since the accident and we have not received a penny from Direct Line who are in my oppinion stalling in order to try and make me drop the claim. WELL I AM NOT!
It is now at the point that court proceedings are now in motion and court papers have been served to the woman who drove into me.
I am planning to take this all the way if need be. My advise is don't insure your car with Direct Line they could land you up in court and to all other drivers I hope that if you ever have an accident the the person at fault is not insured with DIrect Line!

This is not my experience of Direct Line - they have been both cheaper than everyone else and have sorted out a crash we had which was very similar to yours really well.
I have found the best way to get insurance companies to do what you want is to treat the call centre staff nicely - they then go out of their way to help. People who come on to the phone shouting their heads off trying to bully their way to a conclusion don't get anywhere - I should know I have to suffer this every day in my job answering calls.

Warm welcome to Ciao! Direct Line were our insurance company and they messed us around, even though the offending person claimed full responsibility after driving a large truck into our car... to this day it hasn't been dealt with, so we're third party now (oo-er!) Steve.
Advantages: low tax and insurance, small, comfy, good petrol consumption, electric windows, cd player with controls on wheel Disadvantages: not a very smooth drive once you've had it for a year or so, no cigarette lighter or sun roof, everyone's got one!
