Advantages No fuss claims, great discounts for multiple cover

Disadvantages none yet

My car insurance was due so I spent nearly a whole day online trying to get the best deal.
Eventually, Direct Line came out on top and as I usually do I rang them to take up the insurance rather than complete online.
After negotiating that I could still keep the 'online' discount the guy proceeded to ask the normal insurance questions, 'when is you home content due etc etc...'
Here we go I thought more junk mail a month before my current insurance finishes.
Anyway, I decided to hear the fella out and found out if I took contents and already had my car covered I got 10% off, if I took buildings and had contents I would save another 10% on that premium.
Then came what I thought was the catch, did I want car breakdown or home service cover.
I can honestly say despite being a service engineer myself, home cover has never crossed my mind but for just short of £8 per month (discounted because I took up the home insurance) to cover general household faults such as wiring, plumbing problem etc and 24hr response I'd be a bit of a numpty to say no. (I have had the experience of a plumber coming to the house and charging me an obscene amount, just to stand there and tutt!!!)
The breakdown cover (with green flag) was reduced as I had taken up the car insurance.
All in all I saved just over £200 for the year on all insurances combined (plus the 24hr response is an added bonus) and the cover is far superior to my previous insurers, courtesy car, less deductable, accidental cover (4 kids you bet I need that!) etc.
And their service is fast and painless. I had cause to claim for accidental damage to my son's golf clubs, I contacted DL on Monday 31st Oct 2005 and he had his new clubs delivered to the Golf Club where he's a member on Thursday (03.11.2005).
Can't say fairer than that. And the Direct debit rates are better than normal too!

Although this is a informative review, I rated a SH as really it is in the wrong category as Minnitee says. If you do get it moved, please let me know and I will re rate for you. x
