1 year ago I decided to purchase Car Breakdown cover as I was travelling down to Chester from Kirriemuir (Scotland) every 2 weeks, and my partner and I were also commuting 40 miles a day to University with having a P reg Fiesta I was sure that she would one day fail on us!

So I set about shopping about, I came across direct line through the website, I had read alot of good reviews on the companies Breakdown service.

What sold me the cover was

> Average response time of around 40 minutes

with having a baby in the car alot this gave me peace of mind.

what put me off the "big brand" breakdown companies was I had a policy with the AA when I was 17 and I broke down, they took 2 and a half hours to get to me, then were useless.

1. Rescue
Roadside assistance, once you’re ¼ mile from home and, if your car cannot be fixed at the roadside, they will take you and your vehicle to a suitable garage. they will also offer a message service to let friends and family know what has happened.

all of the above plus assistance at Home

3.Recovery
all of the benefits of rescue plus but if they can't fix your car by the end of the working day, they will take you, your vehicle and any passengers, in a single journey, to your original destination, your home address or a suitable garage.

4.Recovery plus

Extends all the benefits of Recovery to your home address, plus a choice of either:

> A hire car for up to 24 hours, or
> The cost of alternative travel to return home or continue your journey
> Overnight accommodation (including breakfast) in a local hotel while your vehicle is fixed (providing you are more than 25 miles from home) If necessary, they will also pay for a single standard class rail ticket for you or another driver to collect the vehicle.

As you can see there is a alot of different levels for you to choose for your needs, you could go for personal cover, we felt for us with only having one car and 99% of the time only travelling in it then there was no point.
We opted for the recovery plus option, because we travel hundereds of miles from home alot in a relatively old car so sods law we would break down one day miles from home. We only pay £8.00 a month for our policy which I think is reasonable for the cover we have.

Our car broke down

six months ago in our trusty fiesta we were commuting to University when all of a sudden the car lost all power on a very rural scottish country road, the clutch had burnt out! I called the breakdown number, got through to a very polite and helpful operator within 20 seconds, who took the car registration number etc and I think it was exactly 40 minutes later we had a truck loading our car onto the back considering we were in the middle of nowwhere thats impressive.

The very kind driver dropped our car off at a garage 25 miles away, then he took us home, in his words were "direct lines orders!"
I cannot fault the level of service we received that day, we will not get our no call out discount, but hey we know we will be rescued where ever we venture!

recently we purchased a slightly newer car with alot bigger engine a Mitsubishi Carisma, I called to amend the details, and was pleased to hear we would be getting £20 back.

Direct Line breakdown is in my view the best on the market for the price and service, I would recommend to anyone going by my experience to go with direct line breakdown.
