Who really enjoys cleaning? I personally hate cleaning, although it has to be done, if you have the right tools cleaning can be quick and painless. With The Dirt Devil 85500Upright Vacuum I can easily clean all the carpet in my home in a fair amount of time, which leaves more time for me to do what I really love, write Reviews. Not only is this vacuum light weight, it is rather small compared to other model vacuums and stores well in my closet. This is my second Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner, the other one I shall not name specifically, however I will say I wasn't impressed.
The Dirt Devil 85500 Upright Vacuum has many neat features that allow
you to not only clean carpets, but gives you the power to clean blinds, curtains, rugs, cars, and ceiling fans. This vacuum is so easy to use, my five year old daughter loves to help me with the daily chores. She pushes it with ease, and with the extra attachments she can get in places that my fat butt couldn't even fathom.
About the Company In 1905 the P.A. Geier Company put it's first vacuum cleaner on the market, the Royal vacuum cleaner. After changing owners several times over the years, finally in 1954 the company was bought by several employees of Royal. The Dirt Devil 85500 Upright Vacuum The vacuum stands about three feet tall, and weighs around eight pounds. The cord measures 25 ft., with an extra hose for those hard to reach places. There are also extra attachments for different cleaning needs: brush roll:for auto 18" extension wand: used with extra hose for hard to reach jobs shaped 8"crevice tool: used for cleaning baseboards and stairs. The extra hose fits easily into the base of the cleaner through a specially shaped insert hole. The power switch is located in the rear at the bottom left side. Just to the left of that is the handle release switch, which allows you to recline the unit. The Dirt Devil 85500 Upright Vacuum requires Type D Bags, and Style 4/5 Belt. It is equipped with a 12-amp motor for power on those hard to clean spots.It picks up dirt and dust quickly, and the 12-amp motor gives YOU the power to control the time really needed to clean. The underside of the vacuum has a rotating brush, which I don't really care for. This is the only feature I don't like, due to the fact hair gets wrapped around it. It does have two phillip head screws though, that allows you to open it up and remove the hair and or string, whatever gets caught in it.
My Thoughts As with any other vacuum, reliability and durability play a key role in the buying decision. Not only has this vacuum cleaner been reliable for me, I found it to be extremely durable. As I mentioned, my five year old helps me with the cleaning. Well, one day while vacuuming the stairs she lost control of it, and down the stairs it went. Amazingly, when it hit the bottom of the stairs it was still on. Didn't budge an inch, which was pretty impressive. I expected it to quit running after the "GREAT FALL". But, a year later it is working good as new. In my opinion the best feature The Dirt Devil 85500 Upright Vacuum offers is the brush roll tool, which I use in addition to the extension wand, and extra hose to clean my ceiling fans. Considering I am only 5'1, and have 12ft. ceilings, this is a wonderful combination of tools. I can reach the ceiling fans without having to stand on a chair or stool. I also like the fact that the cord is 25ft., which I use quite often. I just plug it in next to the front door and carry the vacuum down the front steps, and into the driveway to vacuum the car out. Who needs to take a trip to the car wash with this wonderful vacuum cleaner.
I purchased this vacuum cleaner at Walmart for a mere 49.77 GBP, good price for a great vacuum. I haven't had to replace any parts other than the bag, which are cheap, cheap. The vacuum was easy to assemble, after reading the owners manual. There was a one year manufacturers warranty included with the purchase, that I didn't have to use.
