Kit Car Heaven...Or Hell..You Decide
Advantages: A good introduction to Kit Cars Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
It's 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and I am channel hopping the satelitte and I notice that Discover Home & Leisure are re-airing their series on building your own kit car.
I have already watched Mark Evans build his car and a plane (subject of a future op.) but am keen to build my own car so I have decided to watch the series again.
Essentially, Mark is building a Cobra replica using a Ford Sierra!!
There are various ways of buying/building ... ...a specialist company to do the whole lot; you can buy a rolling chassis and have to organise the bodywork, upholstery etc.; or, like Mark, you buy a kit which comprises of the chassis, fibre glass coachwork, lights and all the gubbins like that, and you also buy a donor car which will provide the mechanical elements such as wheel hubs, steering etc. In this case, Mark is using a Ford Sierra as his donor car and has bought his Cobra replica kit from ...

Better lake than never
Advantages: Easy on the eye, useful tips Disadvantages: John Wilson's laugh!
...on Fishing, Wet Nets and Go Fishing are the best.
Go Fishing has the hugely enthusiastic and very affable John Wilson as its presenter. Wilson has been a professional and extremely successful competition angler for many years so he really knows what he is talking about.
The series is not, however, purely for the purist, though even the most experienced of anglers are bound to pick up useful tips as Wilson talks his way through (and more importantly ... ...a wide variety of both freshwater and saltwater fish.
Each programme lasts half an hour and is usually split into two roughly 15 minute sections (separated by adverts) which concentrate on different sorts of angling. A programme could include, for example, ledger (method feeder) fishing for Carp in one of the numerous day ticket lakes in the country and estuary fishing for Tope in Ireland. Occasionally Wilson goes further afield and enjoys himself ...

Cast of Thousands!
Advantages: Pleasant, modest presenter Disadvantages: Overheavy on fly fishing
I wrote a review of John Wilson's "Go Fishing" a short while ago and thought it would be worthwhile to review Paul Young's "Hooked on Fishing" as a contrast.
The first thing to mention is that Paul Young is unassuming and modest - the sort of bloke with whom you'd be happy to spend a pint or two. He is clearly knowledgeable about angling of all types and his programme contains a wide variety of both coarse and sea fishing episodes.
Young's speciality ... ...away amiably yet informatively as he goes about the business of reeling them in for the cameraman.
The episodes based in the UK and Ireland range from carp fishing on still waters, through river fishing (especially shallow river fly fishing) to the wilder aspects of sea fishing for cod or conger or even sharks.
He also goes further afield to all parts of the world and there was one very memorable episode in Tierra del Fuego (the bottom bit of South ...

Why aye - Look at that fish, man!
Advantages: Great locations and scenery, interesting to see how others fish Disadvantages: Robson Green and his foul mouth and constant whinging
What is it?
As its name suggests Robson Green’s Extreme Fishing is a fishing program starring Robson Green. Where previous fishing programs have focused on the UK, with a bit of international fishing (predominantly in mainland Europe) this series sends Robson further a field to North America, South America and the Caribbean amongst many other places.
Each program Robson attempts to catch a different species of fish such as yellow finned tuna, ... ...others. These fish are not your normal gold fish that can be bought down the local pet shop and they grow to over 3m in length and can weigh in at over 400lbs in weight! These are some seriously big fish that take an awful lot of strength (and time) to land.
The current series is being aired on Channel 5 on 9pm on a Monday night for an hour.
My opinion
What I like about this programme is the different types of fishing it covers. From shark ...

Not just a fishing programme
Advantages: A beautiful program - simply beautiful Disadvantages: None
...vaguely eccentric chaps who have a Passion For Angling, but it has some of the best camera shots with simply delicious music in accompaniament, and the warm, comforting and very soothing tones of the wonderful Bernard Cribbens as narrator.
This is a series to just drift along with. It's atmospheric, nostalgic, humourous, nicely quaint and a masterpiece of production.
The two main presenters are Bob James and Chris Yates. Spookily similar but not ... ...knowledge and skills in a charming, if naive, fashion. Not for them the brassy approach so beloved by Rex Hunt, nor the chap-down-the-road style used by Matt Hayes, they are quite happy to bumble along in their nicely spoken and well-mannered ways, recreating the aura of a gentle and gentlemanly sport.
They are no lightweights in the fishing world, and Chris holds (unless beaten in the last few years) the record for Britain's largest stillwater ...
