Siemens dishwasher: Washes well, but fails on drying Advantages: Very good looking Disadvantages: Useless for letting steam escape to allow pots to dry. ...is the model replacing the Siemens SN25M830GB model. Physically it looks great in the kitchen and the finger print resistant stainless steel frontage is particularly good. Whilst on it is reasonably quiet and certainly seems to wash everything well. My area of complain is when it come to drying things at the end of the cycle. The door does not allow you to leave it slightly ajar so that steam can escape. Instead it always tries to click closed. If ... ...turns back into water and leaves things wet. My husband and I have resorted to having to find something to prop the door open with (a wine bottle cork in our case!) so that the steam can escape. It seems like such a simple design flaw, yet one that actually causes the user a fair bit of hassle. A shame really as it works so well in so many other aspects... ... Dishwasher fire Advantages: Good. basic model Disadvantages: Risk of Fire ! We bought the ZDF 501 2 years ago, and its worked fine. However, 2 nights ago, the dishwasher control panel caught fire about 5 minutes into a wash cycle. Fortunately we were able to put out the fire within seconds of smelling smoke, but the flames were already quite big, and molten plastic from the dishwasher had started a secondary fire on our kitchen floor. Beko DWD4310S dishwasher - good, affordable option Advantages: Quiet, fast wash option, good looking Disadvantages: Height of top rack, occasional failure of drawer to properly release washing tablet We bought this dishwasher because we wanted an afforable "stop gap" before getting our new kitchen fitted with an integrated model. It therefore does not have as many options (e.g. delay timer etc) as some of the more expensive options but it has been perfect for our needs. It has been a great buy..it is quiet and has a fast economy wash option that only takes half an hour . There is plenty of room in the bottom drawer for cutlery and plates and ... ...We bought the silver version as we preferred the look of it to the white one and it does look smart in the kitchen, although it seemed a bit "plasticy" when it first arrived. There are minimal controls, making it very easy to use, and there is a useful salt container indicator which is easy to see, showing when more salt is needed. The only disadvantages are that pint glasses don't fit on the top rack easily (often falling over during the cycle) ... Space saving time saver. Advantages: AAA rated, looks good, easy to use, reliable Disadvantages: An expensive brand, not really for families, quite slow. ...end I decided on the SMEG as not only is it AAA rated (relating to Energy rating, Wash performance, Drying performance for those not in the know) but it also had a flat fronted and very sleek appearance. It matched the fridge and washing machine I had picked out too. I ordered my appliance from Boots Kitchen Appliances, it was delivered a week later at a time that suited me and it was installed and ready to go in no time at all. The dishwasher boasts ... ...four could be a push. SMEG appliances do not come cheap, I paid £450 for mine a year ago and this has come down a little bit, although the latest models can be over £600. It is my view that you are paying for a premium brand and a very stylish appliance which looks good in the kitchen, but I don't feel it does anything extra special. Splish splosh, its a Bosch Advantages: Low noise Disadvantages: Cutlery compartment is a bit inflexible and bendy ...well as performance and the Bosch came out on top. Tour of the Dishwasher Outside The dishwasher has a white metal door, with a white plastic control panel. On the control panel are the power button, the programme dial and 3 red lights for the water supply, a salt warning light and a rinse aid warning light. I will go into more detail about the programmes later. Inside The inside of the dishwasher is split into a lower deck ... ...results out of the dishwasher, Bosch recommend that you use salt and rinse aid with each wash. These items are simple to top up. The salt goes in a compartment under the lower deck. Simply unscrew the cap and pour in the salt via the provided funnel until it starts to overflow. At this point screw the cap back on tightly and you are ready to go.
