Playhouse Disney is an addition to the Disney Channel on satellite television. It is aimed mainly at pre-school children although both of mys daughters (aged 5 & 2) enjoy watching it.
Set in a specially designed house, the channel is presented by Big Dave (Dave Benson Phillips who some people may know from other children's programmes such as The Fun Song Factory) and Little Alex (Alex Lovell). They present the links to the programmes from different rooms within the house and also sing a variety of catchy / annoying (delete depending on whether child or adult) songs. The links are quite short (thankfully) and the programmes ar the real stars of the channel.
The programmes are a mixture of ready-made and Playhouse Disney produced ones. I'll start off with the ready-made ones.
PB&J - this is a cartoon based around three otters called Peanut, Butter and Jelly and their asortment of friends who live on the riverbanks. The main gist of it is that they always have a problem which needs solving. They solve the problem by doing a 'noodle' dance - basically dancing around and scratching their heads (their noodles). Usually around 15 minutes long.
Bear In the Big Blue House - an American puppet programme featuring Bear and his friends. Lots of singing, dancing and good moral endings. Usually around 20 minutes long.
Winnie The Pooh - no explanation needed really. Cartoons featuring the lovable bear and his friends from the Hunred Acre Wood. Usually around 10 minutes long.
Rolie Polie Olie - another cartoon featuring a space age character who is made up of round balls! Usually around 5 minutes.
Spot - yep, Spot is still going! Some of the old cartoons voiced by Paul Nicholas and some newer ones, but all featuring Spot and his friends. Usually around 5 minutes.
Out of the box - a live action, American programme. Presented by Tony & Viv and featuring 3 children, they act out stories, sing songs and make things. Can be a bit nauseating for adults, but the children love it! Usually around 20 minutes.
There are also the Playhouse produce programmes, all of which are around 5 minutes long.
Art Play - hosted by Sara Loiuse, children are shown how to make a variety of characters from the various Disney shows. The idea is that the children should be able to do it all so there is nothing too technical involved!
Bite Size - hosted by either one of 4 presenters and Mitzy the oven glove, children are shown how to cook basic dishes. There is always a warning when an oven is used soo that they know to get an adult to help. Also featuring Ping (the microwave), Pong (the dustbin) and Freeda the fridge!
Music time - either Dave or Alex singing a popular Disney song.
Story Time - hosted by Jason. A basic story telling session.
Playhouse Disney is great fun for younger children as the programmes are not too long for their atention. Their is plenty of variety for them. But, adults be warned. The links between the programmes are obviously pre-recorded and the same links are used with monotonous regularity. Luckily the children don't seem to notice! Also the programmes are repeated regularly.
But all in all, a great channel for children. My 2 love it and there is nothing on there that I would worry about them watching. Highly recommended.
Playhouse Disney is a fairly new sister channel of The Disney Channel, and is aimed at pre school children. You can find it on Sky Digital on channel 616. The channel is presented by Big Dave and Little Alex, although after watching it for a week or so, you realise a lot of the links to programmes are repeated, but my little girl does not seem to notice and if she does it makes no difference. Everyday the presenters start with a catchy song.."there's ... ...in the studio make different Disney characters. PB&J Otter - Peanut, Butter and Jelly are 3 otters, and the songs in this cartoon are some of the best on the channel, and the otters do a dance called "The Noodle dance", when they have to use their noodle (head). Other programmes include Rolie Polie Olie, about a space like cartoon family. Music Time, which is basically songs!!! Circle Time, not one of our favourites, this is hosted by the eternally ...

The Disney channel is actually the only channel that I really do not mind paying for throw my cable tv company. My child absolutly loves it and I also have to admit to rather enjoying some of the old classic feature length cartoons that they have had on it just recently. This channel has a good mix of programmes for most age ranges eg loads of cartoons, shows for older kids eg honet i shrunk the kids the series. The regular movie slot is not just ...

Advantages: very funny, lots of laughs to be had Disadvantages: disney channel tends to repeat quite alot of episodes
thats so raven.. what is it all about??
its a comedy tv show on disney chanel about a girl called raven baxter whos has visions and who can see into the future..
along the way she tries to make the visions come true with the help her friends Chelsea and eddie.. although most of the time making the visons come true ends up in trouble, it makes a very funny and amusing watch
Although the show is directly aimed at younger kids, the script is always very whitty and quite mature at times with alot of jokes to suit any age of person
As the show being called 'thats so raven' you would think its just about raven.. but ravens brother corey is also extremely funny in this show and pulls all kinds of pranks to make money etc, in one show he pretends he can see into the future using a crystal ball and charges people for his services ...
every one will rember Dr Quinn medicine woman that really cheesy show starring Jane Seymour as the super hero or should that be heroine who singly handed saved the mid west in the 1800's it appears that its still going! It was totally dire when it was on ITV so god only knows what it must be like now adays on the Disneychannel! Lucky its hiding out here so that we never have to see it again. This is american pap at its worst - starring a brit! watch it only to be amazed at how on earth it ever got made in the first place! ...
Advantages: No contracts, great selection of programmes, fantastic customer services Disadvantages: none I can think of
cartoon network, Disneychannel, boomerang and lots of American dramas like sex in the city, desperate house wife's, nip tuck, this was all very appealing to me.
The picture box service has a varied selection of new and old films, with a mixture of horror, action, comedy and romance there were something for everyone, a few movies I had already seen but this was okay cause there were lots more to make up for it
I have now been with the service 2months and have not had any problems customer service are always very helpful and thrive to help, I would definitely recommend this service without a doubt. Is it better than Sky? No, but its damn close and a lot more friendlier with you well needed money.
