~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What Is Disney Pix Micro? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Disney Pix Micro is a camera specially designed and manufactured for young children. The cameras are really easy to use and are brightly coloured. I bought my 4 year old son the Car's version of the camera for his birthday, and he has been "snap" happy ever since he recieved his Cars camera. He loves to take pictures in and around the house and he also likes taking his camera with him when we go on family days out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Packaging ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Disney Pix camera is packed in see through plastic. The plastic which the camera is contained inside is the really annoying plastic which is hard to open, the kind that you have to cut open with a knife or a pair of scissors.
Inside this annoying plastic wrapping there is a brightly coloured piece of cardboard which is orange, red and yellow in colour. On the top of this cardboard the words Disney Pix Micro are written in large bold lettering yellow and white lettering. The Disney part is printed in the traditional Disney font and is yellow in colour, and Pix Micro is in white lettering.
Below the Disney Pix Micro lettering is the Cars camera, this is really securly packaged inside the plastic wrapping.
On the bottom left-hand side of the packaging there is a picture of a young fair headded who has the camera positioned at his eye as if he was going to take a picture.
~~~~~~~~~ Design ~~~~~~~~~ This camera is a Cars designes one. it is red in colour and has black buttons on it. On the left of the camera it has a small silver shape with a hole on it, this is so you can insert the wrist strap through it. The camera has Lightning MacQueen from cars printed on it and his name is printed below his picture. Above the picture of Lightning the number 95 is printed in orange and red.
The lense and the flash on the front of the camera is black in colour and looks quite similar to Mickey or Minney mouses face outline.
This camera is really light weight and colourful, i think this is one of the cameras best features because it makes it more appealing to children because of its design, characters and colours.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whats Inside The Packaging? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Once you have battled with the annoying plastic wrapping for about ten minutes, and finally got it opened you will find ~:
Disney Pix Camera
Wrist Strap
Cd Rom Software
USB Cable
Quick Start Instruction Guide
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Camera Features ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This camera is a really good investment for young children because it allows them to be creative and take their own pictures. The camera is really small and light weight so it is easy for children to hold and take pictures with their small hands. The measurements of the camera are, 6.5" w x 10" h x 2.5" d and it weighs about 150g so its is perfect for youngsters.The camera has a built in automatic flash, the flash cant be turned off because there are no buttons on the camera to do so.
The camera has a 1.5 cm LCD status screen on the back of it which tells you how many more photos you can take before the memory is full, it holds a maximum of 40 photos, this doesnt sound much but you have to bear in mind that this camera is for children. You can't expand the memory of the camera with memory cards because there are no slots for them to go into. I find that 40 pictures is enough for my son to use because when we go out on a daytrip to the zoo or the safari park most of the time he wont take as many as 40 photos.
The digital resolution of the photos is CIF, this means that the picture quality is less than 1 megapixel, the quality of the photos is fairly good considering the resolution, the photos look as if they were taken by a mobile phone but they are still clear and not blurred and out of focus.
On the side of the camera is a silver coloured piece of plastic with a hole in it, this hole in the plastic is so you can insert the wrist strap through it for your child to hold. The wrist strap is included inside the packaging and is really useful, when we go out on trips I tie the wrist strap onto Josh's backpack so that it is easy to get to for when he wants to take a picture.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How To Use The Camera ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This camera is really easy and simple for children to use, its just a matter of switching it on and letting them click away until the memory is full.
Before you let your child use the camera for the first time you have to insert a battery into it. This camera takes 1 X AAA battery which you insert in the bottom of the camera. To insert the battery you have to slide the casing on the bottom of the camera towards you, insert the battery the correct way round and then slide the flap away from you until it clicks into place.
Once you have inserted the battery it is a good idea to show your child exactly how to use the camera. I found this quite easy to teach Josh and he remembered how to do it straight away because its so simple.
To turn the camera on and off you have to push the small black button on the top of the camera. You will know that the camera is on because there is a little green light which lights up when it is turned on and ready to use.
To take a picture all you need to do is look through the lense and press down the larger black button. When you are taking the picture the flash will light up and it will tell you how many photos you have taken on the LCD screen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Using The Software ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I explained at the begining of this review, inside the packaging you get a USB lead and CD rom software.
Once your child has filled up the camera and wants to see the the pictures he/she has taken you have to firstly install the CD rom onto your PC or Laptop computer.
Once the software is installed you have to insert one end of the USB lead into the camera and the other end into the USB slot on your computer. This downloads the photos from the camera onto the computer and clears the memory on the camera so as it is ready to use and fill up with photos again.
Once you have done this it will open up the software which allows you and your child to look at the photos which they have taken with their camera.
The software which you have installed onto your computer allows your child to customise the photos they have taken. This part is my sons favourite as we have had lots of fun doing this.
Your child can customise the photos they have taken by easily editing them with the disney software, this allows them to add their own stamp to the photos and even make gifts for family members (I will explain more about this near the end of the review)
The Disney software allows your child to add colourful borders and stamps onto the photos, it also allows them to add various Disney charachters such as Lightning MacQueen, mickey and minny mouse to their photos. This is really easy for your child to do, all they need to do is click and drag the border/character onto their photo.
Once the photo(s) are edited and your child has added their own touch to the photo you can save the photo onto your computer or print it out and frame it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Things To Do With Your Child & Their Photos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Me and Josh have made various different things with the photos he has taken and then edited. We have hours of fun doing this and have made a wide range of different things with the pictures. Some of the things we have made are :~
Place mats ~ To make the place mats we simply took the edited photo and printed it on to stiff A4 card and then laminated it, to make it wipeable.
Coasters ~ Theese are made in the same way as the place mats the only difference is that they are printed on smaller card and laminated.
Cards ~ We have made personalised birthday, christmas, fathers day and easter cards for family members. To do this all you have to do is print the edited photo onto a piece of A4 paper which is cut in half and print it out. then glue this onto another piece of A4 card which is halfed to look like a card. I then let Josh add more details to the card by sticking feathers, buttons, glitter etc onto the card to make it more personalised.
Jigsaws ~ This is one of my sons favourite things to make. All you have to do is print the photo onto a piece of card any size you like and then laminate it. To make the Jigsaw shapes we used my daughters Cella Puzzle maker, which cuts the photo into jigsaw shaped pieces. Josh has given his own hand made jigsaws to his brother and sister as birthday presents and the three of them do the jigsaw together.
There are lots of other things which you and your child can make with the photos, you just have to let your imaginations run wild and have loads of fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Where to Buy The Camera From? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can buy the Disney Pix camera from Argos, Woolworths, Amazon, Disneyshop, Toys r Us and Ebay. I bought the Cars one from argos and it cost £19.99, but remember that you have to buy a AAA battery to insert into the camera because this is not included in the packaging.
The camera is available in diifferent designs, its not just Lightning MacQueen. You can get the following designs :~
Little Mermaid Hannah Montanna High School Musical Cheetah Girls Pirates of the Caribbean Shrek Toy Story
Some places sell the camera at different prices, and some places only stocl some of the different themed cameras, so shopping around and doing a little bit of research is my advice.
~~~~~~~~ My Verdict ~~~~~~~~ I think that buying this camera is the best £19.99 I have ever spent, becuase there are so many things for your child to do with the photos after they have taken them. Editing the pictures is more fun than taking the pictures I think, well it is for my little one.
The camera is small and doesnt hold alot of pictures, but what do you expect for £19.99.
Apart from the low amount of pictures the camera holds I think that it is a great purchase to make because your kid will have so much fun. The camera lasts for ages, it is really hard wearing and durable. It is so simple for children to use and so is the editing software.
Josh has has his camera since January and its still going strong. He has dropped it a few times, apart from a few little scratches on the casing its still in perfect condition, and providing him with loads of fun.
The camera is probably best suited to children who have a love of Disney characters because you can get a camera which will have one of your childs favourite disney carachters on it. in this case my sons favourite Disney film is cars, hence the reason I bought him the cars version of this camera. The camera is probably best suited for children over the age of 4 because it is so easy to use, although the packaging says it is for children over the age of 5. But if you think that your child would be able to use the camera and that they would get alot of enjoyment out of it then go get them one, because it will be the best £20 you have ever spent.
Ease of use ~ 5/5 Price ~ 5/5 Picture Quality ~ 4/5 Memory Capacity ~ 3/5
