Paul O'Grady - At My Mother's Knee

Advantages: Very funny and touching in places.
Disadvantages: Cannot think of any.

Like many others, I first became aware of Paul O'Grady when he was Lily Savage, the sharp-tongued drag queen that he became when he did his stand up comedy routine. Nowadays, Lily has been put to rest but Paul is still successful with his Channel Four teatime show. I wanted to have a read of this book out of interest to see what Paul did and where he came from before Lily Savage. This book had me laughing and crying. He writes just as he speaks on his teatime show and can sometimes start off talking about one thing, and can go off on a tangent about something else. Paul has written stories about his past that had me laughing out loud. He is also very articulate about people, and usually had people sussed out very well. First-Class Satire from French and Saunders

Advantages: Smart, fast, witty, wacky, juvenile, spot-on satirical humour.
Disadvantages: Just a few weak spots, insufficient to ruin anything.

French's goofy take on Queen Amidala), the boffo mangling past comprehension of Yoda's already oddly structured sentences, and the duo as Jedi knights doing ferocious battle with enemy robots that take the form of stand electric fans, salon hair dryers, and various sinister kitchen implements such as whisks and brushes, there's also this throwaway exchange early on: Pork Dim Sum (or Liam Neeson, a.k.a. a bearded, pony-tailed Jennifer Saunders, speaking gravely),: 'May the Force be with you.' Dawn French (or Ewan McGregor, a.k.a. Toby Jugs Kenobi): 'And also with you.' Both: 'Amen.' (I cracked up like mad on first hearing this exchange, haunted as I was by the priest's invocation at Mass, 'May the Lord be with you?.' every time the line was spoken in the first film.) That's not my Snowman.......................

Advantages: Hard backed wipeable book with a Winter theme
Disadvantages: Price

I have just been having a clear out when I came across this book that I bought last year as a stocking filler for my granddaughter and I?d forgotten all about it. It is an Usborne touchy- feely book called ?That?s not my Snowman?.? My grandchildren have a number of these books and I remember buying it due to the Christmas theme. RRP - £5.99 Pubisher - Usborne ISBN - 0746075405 Author - Fiona Watt Illustrator - Rachel Wells The front cover is a lovely rich blue colour with silver reflective stars and moon with white snowflakes and features the little mouse as usual this time looking for his snowman.
