I tired the Atkins diet as i was interested by the concept of how it works. I bought the book, Atkins Diet Revolution, which i found pretty hard to read, as it seems Dr Atkins has tried to put too much detail into what could be such a simple plan to follow. But then the book would be probably a quarter of the number of pages if it had not included quotes from this doctor, and "true" examples from previous patients etc.
I found the first part of this diet quite simple although due to my own limited tastes{ie i dont like cheese, eggs, butter, salads etc},my food was hardly varied and was really boring. However the weight fell off at a rate that i personally found quite worrying. Also after about three days of starting the diet i was overcome by lethargy and excruiating headaches. Also my breath was disgusting, this apparnetly is caused by the body going to ketosis, hardly a selling point! Nice and slim but no-one will get within 10 feet of you.
The rate at which the weight falls off when following this plan must be a worry to anyone with any common sense and the disadvantages far outweigh the possible benefits.
I would only recommend this plan to someone that wants to shed upto a stone of excess weight for a special occasion and would advise against staying on the plan for any length of time if you value your health as i believe this plan cannot be good for you in the long run.

I find this diet quite alarming too. How did you find the after-effects in terms of weight gain? All that weight that you lost ... how quickly did you put it on again? Or is it quite easy to keep it off?

Hi, I think it would be helpful if you put more detail about the types of foods you can and cannot eat on the Atkins diet for those that do not know. A male work colleague of mine has lost over 2.5 stone on this diet, but he does eat sensibly (lots of salads rather than eggs, cheese and bacon).
