I understand that loads of you feel that the Atkins diet works - and I guess it does for a wee while. Let me explain why. By limiting your food intake to mainly fats and proteins, and avoiding carbohydrates, you are switching off your bodies hunger mechanisms. OK, this is what you want in the short term. The weight falls off and you feel the natural boost that achieving weight loss gives you. Unfortunately, the satiety that proteins, in particular, enhance means that your overall nutritional intake is significantly reduced. Over a longer period your body recognises this malnourishment and fights to combat it - reataining essential nutrients and craving supplies. This is not a healthy way to be. Our bodies were designed to receive a balanced intake of nutrients. Upsetting this balance is very unhealthy and in time the weight will creep (or leap) back on.
The Atkins diet works because you are kidding your body that it is full - yet it is not receiving the nutrition it needs. Try healthy eating - if you reduce your overall intake, but keep it well balanced, and increase your activity you will lose weight - it's a proven fact

I couldn't do this as I don't eat much meat (only chicken), although my partner does it occasionally and has lost weight. I don't think it's a very healthy diet though. Lynne x

I'm disgusted that the powers that be allow the Atkins diet to be so mass marketed. It's a dangerous diet to follow in the long term, the rate you lose weight is unhealthy and the whole diet goes against everything we've ever been taught about healthy eating and looking after our bodies. Too much fat is bad for you, full stop. Chris x

I have to agree that healthy eating is a safer albeit slower way of losing weight. A bit more detail is needed in your op for a higher rating though :) xxx
Advantages: Provides a natural appetite supressant, and constant weight loss. Disadvantages: Bad breath,lethergy,headaches,cramp,spots,greasy hair,etc etc
