The Most Concise World War 2 Documentary ever
Review of The World At War (Box Set) by ak481

Advantages: Many Key Witnesses Available for commentary
Disadvantages: Very few stock images in colour.

The World at War Series is refreshingly unique, with the strong powerful voice of Laurence Olivier as Narrator, it offers an insight into both sides of the war, and best of all, alot of the key witnesses or participants of major events were still alive at the time of this documentary so a phenominal amount of commentary was available making this one of the most coverted History sets ever. It even goes onto describe the end of the War in Germany, ... Read review

World War Two in Colour, Face to Face
Review of World War II In Colour - Face To Face DVD by Martinscholes

Advantages: Well put together programme
Disadvantages: Featured only American troops

World War Two In Colour Face to Face is a truly remarkable documentary film. It consists of rare colour film footage, shot during the evil and desperate days that made up the Second World War. The film was, in the main, all shot by film cameramen who were military personnel. Who genuinely braved the same hardships and difficulties that beset their military colleagues, compatriots and fellow combatants. As the commentary on the DVD points out, the ...
...in six men who, during World War Two, did experience the hell and horror of the Second World War. But whose efforts and heroic deeds and ordinary acts were recorded. But not in Black and White. But in colour. There are also the voices of the War Correspondents. Not civilian journalists "embedded" (a strange choice of words) in a unit. No, these correspondents were military personnel. The first correspondent's voice heard on the programme is that ... Read review

Al Gore Talks His Way to a Poor Review
Review of An Inconvenient Truth DVD by dan_the_turbanator

Advantages: Thought provoking, will learn alot about graphs and spreadsheets
Disadvantages: You may never want to go near Microsoft Excel again, tad boring

...follow (Super-Size Me for example), An Inconvenient Truth is essentially one of Al Gore's lectures, put onto film, with a few clips 'tacked on' to break up the never ending flow of graphs. Some just don't seem to fit with the nature of the film, for example, the clip of Al Gore losing the 2000 American elections. Although he does explain why it's important to his passion for global warming (unfortunately I wasn't convinced), its obvious the real ...
...going to the cinema, not an auditorium. Humour plays a small part in Gore's fight, with cartoons displaying simple-to-follow explanations of global warming, and stories that poke fun of the intellect of the American education system. Unfortunately, despite its best efforts to appeal to a wider audience, only scientists will be able to sit comfortably throughout the films running time. Some parts of the lecture have the American audience in stitches, ... Read review

Ali boom ayah
Review of When We Were Kings DVD by Xanshin

Advantages: Great use of footage, analysis from experts and pieced together wonderfully
Disadvantages: None

'When We Were Kings' is a documentary by Leon Gast, centred around the 'Rumble in the Jungle', the boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, which will undoubtedly go down as one of the most famous sporting events in history. Held in Kinshasa, Zaire, the event generated massive interest from all around the world. ...the fight. Ali's charisma, personality and charm meant he was always going to be the man the fight centred around. 'When We Were Kings' charts the build-up to the fight, utilising interviews with experts in the boxing field, members of the media who were in Zaire at the time of the fight, and natives of Zaire as well as interviews and press conferences with the two boxers involved.
