Educating Neelix
Advantages: Training your dog will respond to. Disadvantages: Might be a bit pricey for some.
...most people assume he's a puppy because of the sheer amount of boundless energy and joie de vivre he possesses. As an Alsatian/Terrier cross he seemingly managed to absorb all the negative points of each breed with none of the positives. In short, he is the world's worst dog. Don't believe me? Read on.
Very quickly, and because of the trauma of his upbringing and his stint in kennels, Neelix developed an incredibly strong bond with me. This manifests ... ...needed. My vet recommended Puppy School after commenting that Neelix was 'quite unlike anything I've ever seen before.' To give a wee bit of history, Puppy School aims to teach puppies and older dogs to behave appropriately around adults, children and other animals using a system of rewards and praise. Each trainer holds the franchise for their area and will hold classes (usually) on the weekend. The trainers are also available for home consultations ...

Flyball
Advantages: teaches your dog new skills, excellent fun Disadvantages: my club is held at 10am on a sunday ;-(
There are many different training classes that you can take you dogs to. For example there are basic training classes (aimed more at puppies) and there are extended training classes (for adult dogs who need or want training. As well as training classes, many dog owners take part in agility and flyball. Although the training in these two events are not as bog standard as they are in dog training, both agility and flyball are excellent ways to increase ... ...and most of all they are fun for both the owner and dog.
I have been taking part in flyball for the last 2 years and I take both my dogs to flyball once a week on a Sunday. I am a shift worker so obviously I can only attend when I am not at work. My flyball club is called The Shooting Stars and is held in Folkestone from 10am every Sunday.

FLYBALL
Advantages: socialising for you and your dog Disadvantages: there isnt any
WHAT IS FLYBALL - it is a team sport for dogs. Basically it is a team of 4 dogs, who run against another team of 4 dogs. plus a substitue.
There are 4 hurdles set 6 foot apart, there is a box with a ball stuck in it 10 foot from the first hurdle. the dogs in turn run and jump the hurdles and then jump on the box , this releases the ball into the air which they catch, and then turn and run and jump back over the hurdles to the owner. the next dog ... ...run, If there is a dog which has left his opwn lane this is called interferance and the other team wins. The owners shout their own dogs to encourage them. it is all in good fun, although on competion days it is serious. if a dog isnt up to speed then they dont run.
I train once a week with my border collie, hes still a starter, the good thing is he is really cool round other dogs. last weekend our club did a demo at Cantley park in Doncaster, before ...

Knowledge is POWER!
Advantages: Makes for a social, well trained, well behaved dog. Disadvantages: Training lasts a lifetime.
Fact:Dogs are not for everyone. Before you get a dog, make sure you know what it's requirements are. Fact:Some dogs are not for a novice. Some dogs require a special skill, or they can take over. Fact:Top Dog or Alpha, has to be established. And be aware that the dog, tests his master constantly. Little things like making you feel sorry for it(sad eyes), or even something inane as walking through a doorway before you CAN UNDERMIND YOUR AUTHORITY.
... ...a dog. Some dogs live 20 years. Rule of thumb:The larger the dog, the lower the longetivity. The smaller the dog, the longer the longetivity.
I'll give you the dog years at the end of this op. Meanwhile, let me tell you what training class I PERSONALLY AM AGAINST(only because I almost killed my dog) is choke collar training. Now don't get me wrong this training is very effective. It definitely delivers the message home. But you have to know how ...

DOWN BOY
Advantages: Well behaved dog Disadvantages: time consuming
In light of the great BBC1 programme celebrity dog school, I thought I’d write my own version on how we trained our dog to the standard she now is. We never went to any school and picked up everything we learned from books, the internet and our very own Trampus!
Name: Fudge, Breed: ˝ German shepherd - ˝ Springer spaniel, Age approximately 20 months.
Training a dog is by no means a difficult task, neither is it an easy task, but it can be done with ... ...mongrel came into our family around March last year and won us over with her three colours (white, black and brown), her big puppy eyes, and her gorgeous ears that cocked up to a size that she could have flown with. I was bowled over with her ears alone!
As she grew she had some very bad traits which she needed to be trained out of, so he is how we ‘grew’ or ‘trained’ her out of it.

A normal puppy thing to ...
