The sauce is rich and thick (containing 42% tomatoes) but coats the pasta well. It is a very attractive deep red colour and you can see real chunks of tomato in it. It is quite a spicy sauce as it also contains pepperoni and chilli, and it has a really strong flavour when added to the pasta. The sauce comes in a small 150g green and red (very Italian!) plastic pot with a foil lid (ensuring that they can sit in your cupboard for roughly 2 years before they reach their best before date!) Once opened, the sauce can keep for three days in a refrigerator but I've never found that there's any left! The amount of sauce that is provided is enough for a meal for one person, or a side dish for a small family meal.
The sauce is rich and thick (containing 42% tomatoes) but coats the pasta well. It is a very attractive deep red colour and you can see real chunks of tomato in it. I might add extra ingredients to the sauce (usually leftovers) such as sweetcorn, peppers or onion, but it tastes gorgeous on its own as well. The sauce is quite simple in itself so gives you room to experiment with it.
It is free from artificial colours and flavours and it informs you on the packaging that "Tomatoes are a naturally good source of lycopene, an anti-oxidant". Now to my non-scientific mind this doesn't mean much but it sounds good and I remember reading somewhere that tomatoes can help prevent cancer which can't be bad!
It costs about £1.45 in most supermarkets and comes in other flavours, including Roasted vegetable and Sweet Pepper.
For me, the beauty of this product lies in its simplicity. As the name might suggest, all you have to do is stir the product into the pasta (AFTER cooking it!) and serve! It is perfect for a meal when you are in a hurry or for a snack when you get that urge!

...weren’t on offer but the Dolmio stir-in range was. The offer was at Sainsburys and it was buy one and get one free, meaning that you paid £1.39 for the two of them, so into the trolley goes one Spicy Pepperoni and Tomato and one Tomato and Roasted Garlic.

...it as a snack, but Dolmio suggests it makes a full meal at dinner time if served with a green salad and crusty bread. Once opened, the tub can be stored for upto 3 days in the fridge so there's no need to use it all at once if you don't want to. You can just use half in 75g of pasta and save the rest for another day - two cheap and very tasty lunches.
Personally I like the Spicy Pepperoni and Tomato version of these best, but the range also includes:
... ...flavours here are all natural, Dolmio claiming there are no artificial colours or flavours so none of that artificial crap either. I'd definitely recommend it, oh and if you take a mooch around the net there are some rather wonderful sounding recipe ideas for these as well, but I'm no cook so I've not tried them! I'd definitely recommend at least trying them out, although it's a shame they do not come in larger size tubs or jars if Dolmio are trying ...

Here comes along another cheeky addition from the stock cupboard, and a tasty one at that - Dolmio's Stir-in Spicy Pepperoni & Tomato sauce. Now I'm a man who enjoys a pizza with a load of meat on it, so the humble pepperoni is a must. Yet a sauce for pasta?! Surely not. Well, yes in fact, and it works superbly. As you'd expect, the main taste is a strong tomato base with a peppery kick to proceedings. The sauce is relatively thick, but it does come ... ...Once stirred in fully to a bowl of pasta then it breaks down and the overpowering taste you'll get from the sauce when you open the foil-sealed lid dissipates to a manageable tomato-cum-pepperoni flavour. The sauce comes in a small 150g plastic pot with a foil lid and in a cardboard cover with Dolmio's logo and designs plastered all over it. You can see in the sauce there's genuine bits of pepperoni lodged in amongst it and crammed with tomatoes. ...

What is it?
Well, it's a small little round pot I keep at the back of the cupboard as it has at least a year's shelf life. It has a cardboard jacket depicting a delicious looking steamy pasta supper and the pot contains 150g of sauce. (A bigger pot would have been handy on this occasion but of course, if cooking for this number of people I would usually have ... ...What on earth was it like?
I know the description to date sounds less than attractive but I assure you that this little pot saved my bacon! The idea is that you cook 150g of dried pasta (uncanny that this is the same weight as the sauce don't you think?!) and stir in the sauce. The dolmios new stir in pasta sauce is really nice. It has a good crisp taste to it, and doesn't leave any bad after tastes in your mouth as some pasta sauces can do. Price

I love pasta - it's dirt cheap, filling, and can be stored in a cupboard for ages . The trouble is, on it's own, it can be a little bland, and while making fresh sauces is easy and enjoyable, sometimes, I just don't have the time . Dolmio is probably one of the bigger brands of stirinsauces, and they have a wide range of flavours, including Carbonara, Smoked Bacon and Tomato, SpicyPepperoni , and the flavour I used today, Roasted Tomato and Garlic.
