Sorry about the title by the way, it's terrible I know but who cares right?
Anyone who knows me, will no doubt know that my true love is most definitely food, well ok, booze first but food comes a very close second. I am an absolute sucker for chocolate but when it comes to savory stuff, I love my Indian and Italian food more than anything else.
Now, everyone knows that you simply cannot beat home prepared foods as opposed to ones you buy from the freezer department at your local supermarket. A home made Lasagna or Spaghetti Bolognese is just impossible to top, so when you are preparing one it is important to choose the right kind of Bolognese sauce.
Aw, get lost, I know I said home made but a ready made jar of sauce is exempt so bollox, this is my opinion now shush!
Anyway, I was recently shown how to make the perfect HOME MADE Lasagna by a friend of mine which I will put up at the end of this opinion, <<<WHACK!>>> Tut, fine I’ll have to mention her name and give her all the credit or my face will resemble the inside of the Lasagna quick time. Mel (Cheekychicken) is totally responsible for showing me how to make the dish.
Right, now that’s out of the way, I can get on with it, now where was I? Oh yes, I was saying that to make the best Lasagna, you need to choose the right Bolognese sauce, I have in the past few weeks tried a few different kinds, Morrisons own brand, Buitoni (Think that’s how you spell it) and the leading and most recognizable brand Dolmio and in true Deano style, here are my findings of Dolmio Bolognese sauce:

Ok, Dolmio Bolognese sauce comes in a large 500g transparent jar, the sauce is clearly visible and is dark red in colour (Think end of the month). The label is dark green with a red and white stripe underlining the word DOLMIO and sauce for Bolognese written in bold white and gold text. There is a picture of garlic, tomatoes and all the other ingredients used to make the stuff under the name and a large yellow box claiming that it is now the best ever recipe (didn’t they have that there a few years back?)
~~~~~~TASTE, LOOK AND SMELL~~~~~~
Right, onto the taste test now, Dolmio Bolognese sauce is as tangy as they come, it tastes rich and very tomato heavy and has a nice hint of herbs to boot, it accompanies beef or lamb perfectly. Also it is made using Italian olive oil, although what difference Italian olive oil is to any other is beyond me.
It looks thick and chunky compared to the Morrisons own brand, which is quite watery by comparison and when added to mincemeat, the true beauty of this sauce is revealed. I know ‘end of the month’ doesn’t exactly do this sauce justice but it is the only thing red enough to match, that I can think of anyway, lol.
The aroma it gives off is evident as soon as you open the jar but when it is cooking, the strong tomato and herb smell is enough to make even the driest of mouths water. Again, when comparing it to the cheaper brands, the smell of Dolimio is far superior.
~~~~~~OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION~~~~~~
Dolmio Bolognese sauce is free from any artificial ingredients and preservatives, it is low in fat, only 1.1g per100g serving and a mere 53 calories to boot. Each serving contains 1 of the recommended 5 daily fruit and vegetable portions you are advised to eat every day and it is also a good ‘sauce’ (sorry bad pun) of Lycopene
~~~~~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~~~~~
Dolmio do a wide range of Bolognese sauces from original, to ones with mushrooms and extra spicy varieties, also they do the white sauce for Lasagna as well. They are all roughly the same price, 1.49 GBP and are available from most shops and Supermarkets but in most supermarkets they are frequently on BOGOF special offer, so it worth stocking up on when they are.
~~~~~~RECIPE~~~~~~
Ok, I’ll, finish off this opinion with that recipe that I promised you all, here goes, Authentic Home Made Lasagna: Ingredients can be substituted to suit most tastes:
Ingredients: (all available from most supermarkets) 1 500g Jar of Dolmio Bolognese sauce, 1 500g Jar Dolmio white Lasagna sauce 1LB of fresh minced beef or lamb, 1 Packet of pasta strips, 1 punnet of mushrooms, 3 large tomatoes, 1 red, green or yellow pepper (Or all three if you prefer) 1 teaspoon Paprika, 1 teaspoon or crushed chillies, 1 packet of grated mozzarella cheese, 1 packet of grated cheddar cheese, 1 clove of garlic (crushed) to taste.
Ok, first of all slice your peppers and mushrooms and put your garlic, crushed chillies and paprika on a little saucer. Slowly fry your minced beef or lamb until it is brown, then sieve the excess fat and juices away. Next, you stir in your jar of Dolmio Bolognese sauce. Add the contents of your saucer and stir well. Next, you need a large deep (preferably square) oven dish, line the bottom with half of your Bolognese mixture and spread it evenly. Then add a layer of peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms and top with a layer of your pasta strips. This next part is of high importance: Use half a jar of white Lasagna sauce and spread it evenly over your pasta strips leaving no corner bare, this then softens the pasta as it cooks. Then sprinkle half of your packet of mozzarella cheese over the pasta strips and repeat with the cheddar. Finally repeat this again starting with the rest of your Bolognese mixture and finishing with the mozzarella and cheddar on the very top. Now pre heat your oven to 180oC, and bake for approx 50 minutes until your lasagna is bubbling and golden brown. Serve and enjoy, your Lasagna should feed a family of 8, or 4 if you all have appetites as big as mine.
There, bet ya didn’t think the Deanster could cook did ya? Well I can so there,
Oh and don’t blame me for the way ‘Bolognaise’ is spelt on the Ciao products list, I assure you it is spelt Bolognese, look on the jar if you don’t believe me, lol.

...offer for me today was Dolmio Extra Mushrooms Sauce for Bolognese. Ooh…..
This could be good methinks. So a couple of jars and a checkout later I am on my way to the ranch with my latest culinary acquisitions. I then promptly forgot about the Dolmio for the next two weeks until my Pasta frenzy begins to grow to unbearable limits and I had to break the glass with the little hammer to get my ingredients.
So out came the standard fare for a Mort Spag ... ...to my culinary arsenal the Dolmio Extra Mushrooms Sauce for Bolognese.
****45 minutes later****
(Note to all this is my quick and easy method, my other spag bog takes 4 hours to make)
I have made enough Spaghetti Bolognese to serve four people but what does it taste like I wonder!!! So after getting the Pasta prepared with a little butter and black pepper I am away.
****10 minutes later****
Hmmm……
Where’s the Mushrooms?
This may seem a silly ...

Advantages: Convenient Simple to Prepare Disadvantages: Not as Good as in Italian Restaurants
...buy a colourful jar of Dolmio Bolognese Sauce. These sauces come in a variety of flavours including Tomato,Mushroom, Spicy Peppers, Basil, Mushroom and Basil, Tomato and Oregano,Tomato Reduced Salt and Tomato with Extra Garlic.
If you want to prepare a zesty Spaghetti Bolognese for a family of four then you should brwn 500 gr of minced beef in a frypan,add some sliced onion and garlic, and add the contents of the Domio sauce jar. Cover and simmer ... ...la la !
With Dolmio sauce at your elbow it is really dead easy to prepare nice pasta dishes. It is quick,convenient and even a moderately competent dabbler like myself can cope. Reptedly the sauces from this company are free from artificial colours and preservatives and they also happen to be a good sauce of healthy lycopeen.
The end result are tasty pasta dishes although frankly my efforts have still not managed the quality of the pasta dishes ...

Advantages: It tastes great Disadvantages: I like it too much but not my waistline
...I've tried them all and Dolmio is my absolute favourite.
I have seen 3 flavours - Original, with extra mushrooms and with red wine. The tastiest to me is with red wine but it's sadly hard to get hold of around here. I'm still happy to settle for the other flavours with only a small tinge of regret.
You get 500g in a jar and the cost varies from £1.29 - £1.59. I was in heaven when I saw a special offer at my local shop a few months ago - 2 jars ... ...mince, add a jar of Dolmio sauce, stir and simmer for 20 minutes and serve over spaghetti.
Now thats ok. It tastes good but I like to add more to my sauce. Usually I brown a good sized sliced onion and at least 100g of mushrooms with the meat. Sometimes if I'm not feeling meaty, I even replace some of the meat with freezer veg from those mixed veg packs. Whatever I do it still tastes scrumptiously good.
Whether Dolmio sauce is good for you I don't ...

Advantages: Very Tasty Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
...very easy to prepare and Dolmio bolognese sauce is by far the best product that I have found to accompany it.
Firstly we will start with the packaging. The product comes either in a 320g jar or a larger 500g jar. I find that for one person the 320g jar is by far enough though. The price is around the 90p mark, with the larger jar at about £1.20, and it is available from all supermarkets and any good corner/convinience stores. The jar itself is, ... ...It is clear glass with a green lable across the middle displaying the name of the product with a picture of a tomato (just in case you were not aware I suppose!!!), a slightly criptic explanation of the recipe, along with the good old nutritional information which I will add here. Advantages: should be good, has a 'name ' brand, looks and smells good Disadvantages: fails the taste test - too bland and too tomatoey
...and then pour in your DOLMIO BOLOGNESE SAUCE. Easy. Wait for it to cook and when nearly ready take another saucepan empty in your spaghetti pasta, boil till done to your satisfaction – usually takes around ‘two shakes of a monkeys tail’. Empty onto a plate, pour over your sauce mix and ….dive in (please – NOT literally, you’ll make quite enough mess eating it the regular way).
You should have a meal fit for a King – or even the Vatican’s Papal dining ... ...fairly bland and very tomatoey Dolmio brand. It looks OK, it smells fine, but the taste is overpoweringly just of tomato. And that is despite the herbs and other flavours that have been added in the mix.
No, sorry, Dolmio only registers a point 5 on the Pasta Richter scale for me. Far better to try a few other brands – Sainsbury and Tesco both have excellent ‘own brand’ sauce mixes that are cheaper than this one. Maybe even experiment yourself and ...

Advantages: Tasty and good for you too! Disadvantages: Dolmio light can sometimes be expensive
The original light Dolmiosauce for Bolognese was the first pasta sauce in a jar I've tried in ages.I had always avoided ready made pasta sauces as my hubby says they taste metallic but tried this one as it was on special offer. The sauce contains just 39 kcals and zero fat per 100g making a really healthy option. Ideal for that post xmas chubby phase!
The glass, 500g jar is enough for four people but its down to how saucy you like your pasta and what you are using it for really!
The sauce itself is thick and tastes fresh and could be passed off for homemade by the unscrupulous cook!It has nice chunks of tomato, just enough salt and seasonings and provides 1 portion of your "5 a day" veg per portion.It contains 82% tomato, tomato paste, onions, modified cornstarch,sugar, salt, garlic, basil,citric acid, herbs,parsley and spices ...
