Dom Perignon Nectar of champagnes... far from accessible

Everyone knows Dom Perignon... or at least the name

How many have already tried?

I had the occasion, once, two years ago, I still remember it. It is said that one cannot have opinion on once. It is however what happened.

Everything started in a great restaurant in London, where my manager “invited me to a diner with friends. The environment was very pleasant, the atmosphere really cool, my best friend and my fiancé were there too. And then, just like that, my boss (a friend now), decided to try some Dom P. All the ceremonial follows. The sommelier, all in black, with his white-shinning-towel on the arm, presented us the bottle:

Dom Perignon 1995 if you please (1995 is supposed to be an excellent vintage!)

We were really impatient to taste this amazing product

The cork leaves in a small and discrete POF (no needs to bring attention to us)

The precious liquid slips along the crystal flutes (Dom Perignon ones, of course)

A light bubble coat encircles the top of the flute like it was protecting against the glances which started to observe us

A soft music wakes up our papillae

Cheers!

Ouch

Well

Oh my dear

Is it the correct bottle?

Check the label

The bubbles are indeed light and soft, not aggressive at all. They go along our glass very softly, very elegant kind of.

The nose, discreet, offers some hints of white flowers and cinnamon.

The mouth, well
The aromas, well
The taste, really discrete so to say
No defaults, for sure, but you’ll take a second slip before detecting the (sp) discreet aromas of hazelnut, sweet almond, peach-pear.

Maybe it’s a bit cold, we’ll wait few minutes in the hope that the champagne opens a little more…

We’re still waiting

Careful, I am not saying that this champagne is bad, only, considering its notoriety, the price and the idea we had on this extraordinary champagne … we are quite disappointed. It’s a champagne of quality, without defaults. That’s it, end of talking.

Well, to try at least once ….
