DKNY Women was a fragrance that caught much attention in my office and has now finished! So this is one for my Christmas list!
** Perfume Packaging **
The first thing that obviously catches your eye about a perfume is the packaging and bottle. I know the general understanding that it is what is on the inside that counts but when it comes to perfume packaging I like a unique bottle, it just adds to the charm.
DKNY Women does not let the side down. The perfume is held in a long prism-shaped bottle. The frosted glass adds a touch of mystery and the simple silver DKNY logo on the lid says all it needs too. It is simple yet classy with a stylish twist. It is a strong character of packaging and one that doesn't scream femininity but has the crystal edge to it when the sunlight bounces off it.
The bottle was designed to echo the famous New York Skyscrapers and it really does hit the minimalist and stylish nail on the head.
** The Heart Notes **
The heart scents (otherwise known as the middle notes) are what makes up the main body of the perfume and is usually what catches the most attention and appeal. The heart notes are most apparent within an hour of wearing the perfume and generally last throughout the life of the perfume on the skin. So when people ask 'oh what's that smell?' it's usually these notes that they can sense.
Blood Orange, Tomato leaf, Vodka, Water lily, Orchid, Daffodil, Birch and tulip.
A random mix of aromas which explains the unique scent of this perfume. I really like the blood orange note which is where the main sweetness comes from. It really is a mix and you can see why it can easily grab people's attention.
** Wearing The Fragrance **
The scent of this perfume is also inspired by the apparent Spirit and energy of New York. Unfortunately I haven't been there but I can tell you that it is a burst of freshness in whatever City you are in! It really is alive and ready to go with the first spray and it comes across as very empowering. You only need a spray or two and the entire room is filled with the fruity and light scent. This is what used to get me in trouble at work! I had people walking past constantly asking me what the gorgeous smell was, and the usual male comments of 'you're trying to hypnotise those men again!' If a pretty dress is an eye-catcher then this perfume is a nose-catcher! It really hits the senses and I guess the 'vodka' really does give the scent a kick.
This perfume isn't for the faint hearted, as it really comes across as strong and individual but it does become slightly more subtle after half an hour or so and becomes more of a fresh and light scent. Carrying off the sweet fruity smell and turning into a light floral offering with a slight twist. This really is a unique sent that you can really turn into your own personal fragrance.
DKNY advertise this scent as being like 'laundered t-shirts & wet cobblestones'. Well that's a metaphor if ever I heard one! It is hard to grasp what they mean by this but I think it refers to the freshness and crispness that it has even after it settles down. Perfect to wear in the daytime or first thing in the morning, maybe a bit too fresh for going out or an evening perfume. Most people would overlook it as being too exaggerated but don't underestimate the power of this perfume. It is an embellished fragrance but one that really pays off. It hits you with the sharp blood orange and then settles and relaxes into the water lily and apparently 'fresh laundered' scent.
I have to say that although the perfume smells divine and instantly bounces with aroma, it does not tend to last very long. Once the heart notes have settled there isn't much scent left and I always feel the need to re-spray after a few hours. This is a shame as the smell is gorgeous, but that is the only downfall in my opinion.
** Price, Availability & Other Products **
As with most perfumes the price varies depending on where you got and what size you get. I would always advice you to look online as there are so many perfume retailers now. I bought mine for £29.99 for 100ml from The Perfume Shop. The usual places such as Boots etc have it on sale for around the same price.

** Recommendation **
Although the perfume first came to the market in 1999 it is by far past its sell by date. In fact it is still so up there with the new recent perfumes that I will definitely be buying this time after time. It is fresh and invigorating and bursts out of the bottle with every spray. You do have to re-spray to keep the scent alive. It is hard to analyse if this is value for money. You only need a spray or two as it is so sharp and strong, yet at least a few times a day. So in my opinion if you like the smell then yes, 100% worth the money. It is an everyday perfume so you will be using it often.
As a gift I would probably avoid unless you know the person either wants it or usually likes strong, individual perfumes. It might be a little to risky as a gift.
I love the smell and obviously now the empty bottle is in my desk draw so do the other people where I work! This is definitely on my Christmas list.
