Smells Okay, but makes me Itch!
Advantages: Smells okay so long as you dont use to much, well designed bottle Disadvantages: Scent not for everyone, can be overpowering, reacts badly to my sensitive skin
I received DKNY Red Delicious some years ago for a Christmas present. Admittedly it was clearly a ‘I had no clue what to get you but all girls like smelly things’ type presents, however when I received this I was fairly pleased as I had heard a lot about the Delicious collection and was waiting to try them out for myself.
The box was a very striking bright red in colour; with a slightly pinker red pin stripe around the whole ... ...perfectly cubed in shape and without taking any exact measurements looked the same size square on all sides. It was also fairly small, which didn’t put me off; it just looked like they had only used enough packaging to cover the bottle, which is no bad thing. Admittedly it was clearly a ‘I had no clue what to get you but all girls like smelly things’ type presents, however when I received this I was fairly pleased as I had heard a lot about the Delicious collection and was waiting to try them out for myself.
The box was a very striking bright red in colour; with a slightly pinker red pin stripe around the whole thing towards the bottom half of the box. It was perfectly cubed in shape and without taking any exact measurements looked the same size square on all sides. It was also fairly small, which didn’t put me off; it just looked like they had only used enough packaging to cover the bottle, which is no bad thing. The front of the box had, in very large black/grey letters fairly near the centre of the face, DKNY and underneath this, its meaning (Donna Karen New York). Overlapping this large brand name was a small oval that had in it the products personal logo. This had a white rim and was a faded red inside. It again said DKNY then, for the first time on the box, had Red Delicious in dark red swirly writing. I personally feel that the name of the product should have had more precedence on the box and the brand name should have been less of a front runner in the design. Although I understand that it is the designer make that will sell the product, I feel from an advertising point of view, knowing which particular product you are buying is more important than who made it.
The bottle is very attractive and bauble shaped which is unusual and eye-catching for a consumer. It does of course represent a red apple, which I think it has done fairly successfully. The bottle is split into two sections. The top half is a silver lid that forms the top of the bauble. It has a small dent in the top that is designed for putting your thumb in whilst holding. This does make this product easier to handle as its round shape doesn’t always fit neatly into your hand. The silver lid also has the products oval seal on the front of it, which I think is a nice touch in linking the bottle to the box. The bottom half of the bottle is deep red in colour, and is slightly see-through. This is an attractive feature as it is more interesting than a simple, colourless bottle and it looks nice just sitting on the dressing table. To remove the lid, you simply twist the silver part away from the red section and the lid spirals off. I like this as it feels smoother and is easier to remove than one that you simply pull, as it does not get stuck and you are less likely to hit yourself in the face by pulling to hard! There is then a simple silver push spray that dispenses the perfume.
I would agree with the other reviews saying that this spray does often let out too much however I have not found this a huge problem as long as you move the bottle as you spray you don’t end up with a big clump in one area.
The perfume does smell pleasant. Once sprayed, you don’t get too much of the initial alcoholic smell that some perfumes give off which is a bonus. The first thing you smell is fruit, and lots of it. Mainly apples but I always smell melon too. This is nice as it is fairly light. However this first smell is also quite heavy as it has quite a strong, floral smell to it. This floral smell doesn’t make the perfume smell old though, it is clearly aimed at a young audience and you can clearly smell this.
As the smell wears off, the floral smell completely disappears. The perfume smells more like berries, but still with the melon smell in the initial spray. I have found it takes about 30 minutes for the floral smell to totally go however this will be different for different people on different skin types. The smell is very sweet and may become over powering if used to often or sprayed too much in one go. I can smell raspberries and strawberries as a main fragrance which I quite like. The scent lasts for quite a long time in this milder form and can still be noticed towards the end of the day.
I personally wouldn’t describe Red Delicious as a particularly feminine fragrance; it is too strong and heady to be given this title. However it is not unpleasant if used sparingly. Perfume is something that is very different for different people. Some scents that smell lovely on one person, may not suit the next. This is because we all have different oils in our skin and different skin types. My skin, as you may know from reading previous reviews, if very dry and sensitive. Apparently, perfume doesn’t last as long on dry skin as it does on oily skin. Red Delicious does stay on my skin, however I wouldn’t say that its staying power is brilliant as the smell has a very noticeable fade throughout the day and you have to try really hard to smell it by the end of it!
A big downside of Red Delicious for me is the fact that is really doesn’t react well to my sensitive skin. Straight after applying I can feel an itching around my neck and this sometimes can lead to irritation. This is frustrating as I have to apply the perfume to my clothes should I ever want to wear it out to avoid having itchy and sensitive skin throughout the rest of the day. I would recommend to ‘try before you by’ especially with this perfume because as I have said, the perfume changes throughout the day, so what you initially may like, you may not by the end of the day. I would spray your chosen perfume on yourself in the shop first thing in the morning then go back at the end of the day if you still find it appealing. Always good for people with sensitive skin to because as you probably know, reactions aren’t always instant.
As a student, I feel that this perfume is fairly expensive, especially for the amount you get. I don’t think that I would have paid the £30 odd pounds that is asked for had I been buying this myself. Overall, I like the smell, however its not a perfume you can use everyday as it is quite sickly and can become overpowering if used to often. I really like the bottle and can see that a lot of thought has gone in to the marketing of the perfume. However I would not buy Red Delicious again for two main reasons, I think it costs too much and there are cheaper and better alternatives out there, and it affects my skin so I can only wear it on my clothes. Obviously not everyone will have this reaction, my cousin has the same one and she doesn’t have sensitive skin and its fine on her, so don’t let that put you off, it’s just something to consider before buying.

I discovered Red Delicious when I was looking for a floral oriental that wasn't too heavy or over powering, but fresh and a bit fruity.

Red Delicious Women blends champagne and skin accords with the scents of lychee, raspberry, apple, rose vanilla bean, patchouli and amber.
At the first breath of this, it appears very fresh, sweet - gradually turning more mellow, fruity, and this lingers into something quite sickly - the last bit is probably just a personal issue.
At first, the scent is refreshing and reminds me very much of ... ...the sea - I am attributing this to the lychee. After a few seconds, a subtle delicate floral scent seems to be present and reminds me of pink lotus flowers. Ironically, the main theme for this perfume is apples and this aroma comes last in the impression - and is one that lasts longer than the rest. There is only a hint of apple and yet, the smell seems to linger, I feel this has been helped by the 'exotic' lychee - and hence the nauseating effects ...

I had high expectations for the product, DKNY Red Delicious EDP for women, because of positive comments and recommendations about it from some of my friends, saying its smelt wonderful. So I asked my dad to get it as he wanted to know what to get me from his business trip to America. I know it's silly - I didn't smell it prior nor did I intend to because I really thought it would be nice. So I had no idea what it was going to smell like - all i could ... ...like by checking the fragrance's scent descriptions on the internet. I still had high hopes otherwise.

This is my favorite perfume of all time! Its fruity aroma stays lingering for hours, i always think it smells exactly like the red delicious apple tastes. If you like fruity but not sickly sweet then this is defianately the perfume for you. The bottle has a good design that is easy to spray and a good handbag shape and size as well as a nice, sturdy box for packaing. It is in its element during the summer and autumn months and it is still excellent ...
