It was my birthday the other day, and I got DKNY woman perfume as a gift from my sis....This year I wrote a wish list for my birthday, and handed it over to my hubbie to coordinate. I told my sis about the list too, and she reserved the perfume option for her gift - I didn't know what perfume I wanted, as I haven't ever chosen a perfume for myself (sounds weird doesn't it) I've always either bought cheapo body sprays or used perfumes I've been given as presents.
So on a designated day, my sister and I trundled into town, and she (the perfume junkie - and therefore experienced and confident enough to guide me) took me into a perfume shop. It was one of those bright places in a shopping centre with really loud music, and loads of glass counters. The perfume was all behind the counter so we had to ask the lady to get the testers so we could sniff them. This is one of the reasons why I never go perfume shopping - I hate having to keep asking for the testers because I feel like a fraud esp. if I don't buy anything. Anyway, each time we asked to test a perfume, the lady sprayed it on a stick of card, and labelled it. We sniffed a jar of coffee beans in between each one (to refresh our senses) and by the end I had loads and loads of sticks of card, and felt completely confused. I also couldn't help but be swayed by the bottles - nice bottle design could sway my opinion considerably!!! I then went back to my sisters house and smelt all of her (hundreds of 'em) perfumes, and also her flat mates perfumes too. By the end of the day I had narrowed my findings down to three favourites. DKNY woman was the overall winner because the smell was so unique, another one won because I fell in love with the bottle, and another was an all rounder - close runner up to the DKNY.
Anyway, the purpose of my long pre-amble into this review of DKNY ( I am reviewing the perfume - not the shopping experience -I promise!!!) is to illustrate how in one day, I smelt enough perfumes to feel experienced enough to talk about liking this one - DKNY woman.
Lets start with what should be the most important factor of a perfume.....
THE SMELL What I say: I would say that the scent of this perfume is totally unique to any of its competitiors. It is a citrus scent that is fresh and zingy. I find it difficult to put my finger on what might make up the scent, the nearest I can come is to suggest a combination of lime and freshly cut grass.
What they say: there is no description of the scent on the bottle or its packaging, so I did a search on the internet and came up with this: "DKNY infuses a vibrant burst of blood orange and vine-ripe tomato leaf with a bouquet of yellow waterlillies and sunny daffodils."
I got this quote from the fragrance direct website. I find the 'vine ripe tomato leaf' part to be accurate in describing the smell, but my nose can't find the 'blood orange' part to be true. 'yellow waterlillies and sunny daffodils' could be true - but then I am only imagining what they might smell like.
THE BOTTLE The bottle is very elegant, simple and understated. Like the perfume, it is not fussy or ornate. The bottle is tall and narrow with square edges. It is made from frosted glass with a clear glass square lid. It looks a little like a skyscraper. If I picked a perfume based on the bottle design (believe me if it hadn't been for my sister I might have done that) I wouldn't have picked this one as although it is elegant it is rather plain, and not really expensive looking!!!!
One point to take note of though is that you definitely could NOT fit this unweildly bottle into your handbag for top-up squirts throughout the day.
THE PACKAGING Is again simple and mirrors the shape and size of the bottle. It is made from clear plastic with a card inlay that is irridescent. The information given on the packaging is minimal and very subtle.Title, volume, ingredients, and safety warning.
THE PRICE Well, even though I am rude enough to tell my friends and family what they should buy me for my birthday, I am not rude enough to ask the price, so I can't tell you how much my sis spent in a high street store on it. But a bottle from www.fragrancedirect.co.uk will cost you £9.99 for 150ml this is substantially less than the RRP which is apparently £22.00. I'd say that £9.99 is a steal for such a lovely perfume, and when I run out I won't hesitate to stock up on this perfume esp. if I can get it for £9.99!!!
WHEN SHOULD I WEAR DKNY? DKNY woman is more of a daytime perfume, as it is so light and refreshing.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? When I first applied the perfume to my neck (2 squirts one on either side of my neck) and my wrists (2 squirts - one for each wrist) the smell was very strong. My husband commented whilst we were on the way to work in the car. He said that maybe I should halve the amount of squirts I use. However, by the end of the day the smell had subdued somewhat. Although I could still smell it if I took a hearty sniff at my wrist, I doubt if anyone else in my vicinity could still smell the scent. I think this is a perfume that perhaps needs a top-up squirt half way through the day. The problem with this is that I can't see this tall thin bottle fitting into ANY of my handbags, so it would be impossible to carry around should a top-up squirt be required.
THE VERDICT This is not a girly-girly sweet scent and niether is it pungent and musky, so it definitely falls into the category of refreshing and citrus. So all sweet scent lovers would be advised steer clear of this perfume.
So for people who like an uplifting light scent this is perfect. I particularly like the unique scent - you just can't quite put your finger on what it is that makes up the smell. I really like that!!!!
I recommend that this perfume be sniffed before bought, and on the whole I am VERY happy with my new bottle of perfume. Just remember though....when buying perfume....try NOT to judge a perfume by its bottle.
Advantages: Gorgeous Fruity smell, great packaging Disadvantages: Does not last as long as I would like
I had been after the DKNY (Donna Karan, New York) fragrance for absolutely ages, after smelling a tester in Boots - I HAD to have it! Luckily my fiance brought the 30ml Energizing Eau De Parfum for christmas - so as you can imagine, I was really pleased!!!
One of the first things that attracted me to this fragrance was it's modern packaging, a silver and transparent long diamond shaped box with black 'DKNY' logo titled horizontally on the silver ... ...the packaging, a very attractive bottle with both misted glass and normal glass on either side. It has a silver spray pump on top of the bottle and a glass top which has the DKNY logo, again horizontally on the front.
Thats the boring packaging bit over...now the most important bit - the scent! You really do not have to use very much of this at all, as it sprays out a considerable amount, drenching you in it! The first thing that strikes you, is ...

Thats exactly how tall this bottle is - 9 inches (bet that puts quite a few of you lads to shame!!!). I am a bit of a fan of Ghost but recently on an outing (I love shopping outings!) to Debenhams I walked past the perfume counter (quite quickly I must add to avoid being sprayed with 10 different perfumes by the women in white coats!) and I spotted this sleek looking bottle. I stopped in my tracks!
The bottle itself is truly amazing...a tall (9 ... ...glass on the front and back - clear at the sides, and a frosted plastic lid with the DKNY logo on. The box is fabulous - a silver 'oiled' effect which you can see rainbow colours in. All in all, it was the simplicity and elegance of the packaging that caught my eye. Then the perfume....
The first squirt is extremely potent - very fruity. The most over powering smell I think is of pink grapefruit. Then you get the lemon and orange in its depths. ...

Advantages: It's a gorgeous fragrance! Disadvantages: Can be quite strong
...The DKNY acronym stands for Donna Karan New York. Like alot of perfume manufactuers, DKNY first started as a fashon label and moved into the perfumery market. This is DKNY's first frangrance for women (brought out in 2000) and I think they did a damn good job!
The bottle is tall and slender and is in the shape of a diamond. Half of it is frosted glass, the other half is clear. Quite a nice effect...yep, I think I approve! The box the bottle is presented ... ...on the shelf! It's the tall one with a kind of holographic effect.
The actual smell of this perfume is very distinctive. The main scents in it are:
~Citrus
~Orange
~Tomato Leaf
~Waterlilly
~Green Coral Orchid
~Vodka
~Tulip Tree
~Daffodil
~White Birch
Don't worry about the tomato bit...this fragrance isn't tomatoey! As you can see, there is vodka in it apparently! But you can't really smell it. I would describe this perfume as:
~Fruity

Advantages: Elegant packaging, light fragrance Disadvantages: Strong when first applied
Ah, birthdays. That day when you wake up all excited and eager to unwrap the lovely surprises that have been lovingly bought and gift-wrapped. Well, maybe when you are 10, but once you get older birthdays kind of lose some of that excitement. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy my birthday (any excuse to party!) but there isn’t quite that same sense of anticipation as there used to be. Plus, it means I’m another year older! However, ... ...fact now counting down again.
Anyway, back to the surprises (or lack of them). They don’t seem to exist anymore because friends and family usually ask what I want and end up buying exactly that. Not that I’m not grateful, but a little surprise is nice! And there was no surprise from hubby either – we went shopping on Saturday and he dragged me into Boots (well, I wasn’t exactly dragged as I can happily spend a lot of money ...

Advantages: Very distinctive, contempory scent. middle of the range price. Disadvantages: Not the cheapest perfume going.
If you are after a new scent that is contempory and makes you feel good, then this is a definate contender. DKNY (Donna Karen New York) perfume for women has been around for quite a while now,(i've been wearing it since about 2000) yet to my knowledge it still hasn't got the fame of other labels, such as CK, Hugo, Tommy etc. This recognition would be well deserved, but in a way it is good, as by wearing it, you feel that little bit more unique. I ... ...taste of vodka, although the smell itself doesn't directly reflect this (you won't smell like you've been in the pub when you wear it!). It mostly smells fruity and fresh with hints of flowers like lilies. It has a very unique smell that is adorable and nothing like other trendy perfumes. When first applied all the depth of the scent is noticable and depending how liberally you have applied it (no more than 3 sprays is recommended) it can be overpowering. ...

Before I begin this review, I would firstly like to say that thankfully I am reviewing a sample of this perfume and not a paid for product. As this is the case unfortunately I am unable to review the packaging or bottle.
Instead I will give you a brief idea of how I obtained such a product.
In addition to Dooyoo and Ciao I have also signed up to other sites such as latestinbeauty.com which is a freebie site. Once a month members (free membership) are entitled to up to three free sample sized products. Usually you select one from hair and body, skin care and makeup and fragrances.
This month I ordered my free sample of DKNY Delicious Night perfume and body lotion. The product was advertised as "like night itself, the scent is mysterious, mesmerising and shimmering with light." Sounds lovely!
I have never purchased a DKNY ...
Advantages: nice fruity/floral/muscy composition Disadvantages: poor staying power considering it is an eau de toillette
DKNY Delicious Night Eau De Parfum is a fragrance which was launched by Donna Karen New York in 2007, following the release of the previous 2 DKNY fragrances which were Be Delicious and Delicious Red. As well as the Delicious Night perfume you can also purchase other Delicious Night fragranced bath and body products such as the body lotion and shower gel which has the same fragrance as the perfume. The complimentary bath and body products help to layer the scent of the perfume upon your skin therefore increasing the longevity of the scent. People who have dry or oily skin and find that the scent of perfumes don't really last on their skin may benefit from using the complimentary bath and body products before applying the perfume; as this would give the scent a base to layer itself upon therefore increasing the longevity of the scent ...
Advantages: Well-blended, interesting fruity and oriental notes Disadvantages: Average, one of a dozen oriental, doesn't last long
Launched: 2007
Available: stores, online
Olfactive group: Oriental floral
Delicious Night is the third installment in the 'apple bottle' series following Be Delicious (2004) and the limited edition Delicious Red (2006). I like Delicious Red for its fresh crispness and so tend to use it in summer. Adding an evening version to my Red intrigued me. Or is it going to be just a misplaced namesake again?
The packaging
Like its other siblings Delicious Night is packed in a black, dark purple box that has DKNY and the white-dotted skyline of New York printed across it. The contains the same apple-shaped bottle this time entirely in solid deep purple colour and has the familiar 'apple' lable on its top half - justl like the apples in the supermarket except the fact they don't come in royal purple ...
