“Dooley’s Original Toffee Liqueur”
THE PRODUCT
Dooley’s is the only licensed toffee liqueur currently available on the market. It hails originally from the USA, but is now manufactured under licence in Europe, by Behn Originals of Germany. The drink is blended using a combination of vodka, cream and caramel syrup using a top secret process (well, that’s what the manufacturers say anyway.) Surprisingly enough, Dooley’s has up to 50% less fat content that other, similar products, so it is lower in calories and has a longer shelf life.
PRODUCT PACKAGING
Despite any claims by the manufacturer to the contrary, I get the distinct impression that Dooley’s is designed to appeal to a younger age group – which is quite unusual for a liqueur. The bottle is packaged in a wrap around red and blue transfer, with a bold Dooley’s logo supported by little pictures of melting toffee chunks to appeal to our sweet teeth. The bottle stands out a mile from the crowd and is well-designed to appeal to the impulse buyer. The overall style is slightly tacky – this is not a classy looking drink by any means – but then I don’t think it’s meant to be.
The bottle also has a cunning non-drip cap, which is useful because the drink has a relatively thick consistency and drips would make a real mess down the side of the bottle.
THE SMELL
Unscrew the cap, and your nose will be embraced by a deliciously sweet toffee aroma that is extremely appealing. It has a relatively strong alcoholic smell, but rather like Bailey’s, the combination of sweetness and alcoholic kick is very appetising and not at all overpowering.
THE TASTE
If you like Bailey’s, I’m willing to bet you will like this as well. It has that same, smooth flavour that seems to gradually warm up as it slides down your throat. The toffee flavour is very apparent – the drink contains caramel syrup, which is where the toffee flavour comes from. The balance of alcohol and toffee has exactly the same effect as Bailey’s – very relaxing – what you might call a “feel good drink”. The taste is slightly sickly however – I don’t think you could drink vast amounts of this without starting feel slightly nauseous.
The alcohol content of Dooley’s 17% - so this sits somewhere in the middle of the range for strength. With these sweet liqueurs, I tend to find it quite difficult to get pissed – they don’t really lend themselves to debauchery – how many Club 18-30 holiday makers do you see swigging a bottle of Bailey’s? This can make the drink quite deceptive however, so small glasses are recommended.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Like Bailey’s, I think this drink is best served with plenty of ice. (Tip: Try and use the Polar Bear ice cubes that are on sale in most supermarkets – they are specially treated not to melt too quickly, and as such you should be able to finish the glass before the drink starts to get watery.) The manufacturers also recommend the product as a shot in a cup of coffee, but I think the drink goes better in a mug of hot chocolate. I would also think that the toffee flavour would combine well with other sweet flavours, to make some great cocktails. How about:
70cl currently retails at around £10.69. It is therefore cheaper than Bailey’s cream liqueur, and one bottle lasts quite a long time. I consider this to be reasonably good value for money – good liqueurs are not normally cheap, so Dooley’s is relatively well priced.
MY VERDICT
This is the sort of drink that goes down well at Christmas. It has a great novelty factor, and is genuinely quite an enjoyable liqueur, although if you don’t have a particularly sweet tooth, this probably wouldn’t appeal. Keep it out of reach of the kids though – the bright colours and toffee smell could lead to disastrous results…
Advantages: Alternative to Baileys Disadvantages: May be too sweet for some, Size of bottle
OH yes honey Bee loves her Dooleys. It was the night before Christmas and someone was drinking but it wasn’t a mouse, it was Honey Bee tucking in to her creamy, tasty and rich Dooleys. If you like toffee and you like baileys well you will love Dooleys. Dooleys is a mixture of toffee, cream and vodka. It is a great drink to have alone, with ice or even in coffee. Becoming 18 last year I decided it was about time I had a nice selection of drinks ... ...but I was also desperate to try Dooleys. I had seen the short but obviously very persuasive advert on the TV for this drink. I thought that it was going to be an advert for Baileys, but I was wrong, it was an advert for a toffee liquor. Being a fan of Baileys I defiantly wanted to try Dooleys. The bottle for Dooleys is rather funky and very colourful. Half of the bottle is blue and the other is a warm red. The name of the drink is plastered across ...

Advantages: Delicious taste, indulge yourself, quality alcohol and bottle. Disadvantages: Moorish, fattening and you won't want to share.
...used to drink Bailey's as Dooley's wasn't available then it's not been out that long in comparison to Bailey's. So now it's Christmas time it's time to spend some money on an alcoholic treat.
I head down to my local off licence and stand there looking at all the alcohol. I probably look a bit of a fool as most people just walk in and walk out with a bottle within minutes, but I stand there imagining the taste of each bottle as I try to reach my ... ...it was more expensive than Dooley's and is in my opinion sicklier in taste. There was a peppermint liqueur but, I thought that might be too sickly as well. A chocolate liqueur looked tempting as well, but it wasn't quite the taste I was after. Finally my eyes reached the top shelf where a lovely looking bottle called out to me. By this time I was thinking my husband will be wondering where I am and soon will be sending out a search party so I had ...

Advantages: Sweet, and helps you out at a party Disadvantages: A bit strong, and can be sickly
...was where I first spotted Dooley's Original Toffee Liqueur. Alcoholic Toffee, I must be dreaming! I was sure I had seen this around somewhere, but could not picture it! I decided not to buy it as I did not have much Euros with me!

I just had to try some, especially after driving to Wales from Dover, although my dad did most of this! It was time to give it a try. Onto the taste, I realised after having one mouthful, that I had pored ...

I first came across Dooleys when shopping in Tesco's you know the way those trolleys tend to have a mind of their own and before you know it your in the off licence part of the supermarket! Well this bottle was just screaming buy me so being a social worker I just had to give it a good home.

THE DRINK:
The liquor itself very closely resembles Baileys, but this is where the comparison ends, The 70 cl bottle cost £10.59, this currently is retailing cheaper than Baileys at £10.80. It contains 17% alcohol which is approx 34% proof and is imported by a company called Behn Originals, who are a German Company.

Advantages: Unique Flavour Disadvantages: You may not like it if you don't like sweet or creamy drinks
...I thought I would give Dooley's a go as it looked similar (colour and consistancy wise).
I wasn't sure if I would like it (I don't normally like sweet drinks) so had never purchased it before, even though I had seen it in Tesco. I was nicely surprised. It does have a sweet taste but it isn't too overpowering. It is really easy to drink, to watch out.

---Product---
Dooley's is a creamy toffee flavoured liqueur (17% vol) and is imported from Germany. It is similar to Baileys in the way it is drunk, straight, on the rocks, in coffee or as part of a cocktail. It has a vodka base so if you are after a stronger kick you can add extra vodka too, but obviously this will also dilute the toffee flavour.
