Doritos Crash Course. When I saw the name of the marketplace, I didn't really think twice about it, but being a very money-concious teenager I am, I saw the price tag of Free and decided to take it for a spin. This game took me completely by surprised and quite frankly amazed me, which doesn't happen every day.
"Doritos Crash Course" was the winner of Doritos annual "Unlock Xbox" competition, which searches the world for the best talent in the field of community creations on the Xbox's XNA programming platform. Looking at last years "Unlock Xbox" winner, I wasn't really expecting much with this release, but I think that's one of the reasons why I feel so highly about this game.As soon as the game fired up, you can see this game has had many man-hours put into it, the whole game has high production-value and that's simply at the menu. I found the menus to be extremely easy to navigate around, and before I knew it I was in my first race and that's where the game truly shone.
When the countdown begins until the start of the race, you can immediately see where Doritos Crash Course gets its inspiration from. The game plays as if it was port of the extremely popular TV gameshow "Total Wipeout" with elements of "Takeshi's Castle" or any other assault course type gameshow, which in my mind is great, because I have never (In my whole gaming career) managed to play an assault course game that plays just like the television shows! The main character of this game happens to be your Xbox Live Avatar, which is a perfect way to compliment your purchases on the Xbox Live Avatar Marketplace. The animations are over-the-top, which goes excellently with the type of game this genre-creating game achieves. The running animation reminds me of the mind-blowing game "'Splosion man".
For people who crave achievements, this game is a fabulous as it offers 12 achievements (amounting up to 200 gamerscore) for the mind-blowing price of free. The game fails to disappoint and the replayability due to the diversity and increasing difficulty in the levels (Let alone the race for the top of the friends leaderboard) will keep your entertained for weeks! And the best part is no money will be parted from your wallet in order to enjoy this brilliant experience!
