...Even better then the film, Hitch-hikers delivers more of Douglas Adams hilarious humour to the audience. Follow Ford Prefect, Arthur Dent and co. on their adventures through the Universe. From the destruction of Earth to wondering around Stone Age England with a talking sofa. Discover the final fate of the characters you meet; Slartibartfast, Marvin, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Trinian.
This book is not just for those who like science-fiction as it brings together comedy and adventure too. Douglas Adams' series appeals to a broad audience and this books popularity is a show of his genious. Hitch-hikers is a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read from start to end. An entirely readable and non-putdownable for many book Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is excellent all round....

Advantages: It makes you think Disadvantages: It makes you think!
...This is Douglas Copland at his most thoughtful.
Telling the story through several characters perspectives, Copeland leads us through a narrative that is touching, hopeful, bleak, inspiring and very, very human. His families are, as usual, dysfunctional. His storylines are unexpected and coincidental. But none of this makes it any less easy to identify with each of the characters in turn and engage with a brilliantly original novel.
Douglas Copeland doesn't end his books in Jane Austin style, with all the loose ends tied up - he leaves them flapping in the wind. I finished this book wanting desperately to know what happens yet. In the absence of that, I went out and bought the whole back catalogue of his work – and then re-read Hey Nostradamus!...

The Big Picture Review ofThe Big Picture - Douglas Kennedyby

Advantages: Superbly written read for winter night or a journey Disadvantages: You won't want to put the book down
...Douglas Kennedy writes in a really easy reading tone - you read his books and feel like you are in the room with the characters.
This book gives rise to housewifely boredom who turns to adultery, an overspending businessman who turns to murder...not only this, but you follow a man's quest to hide his atrocity and re-invent himself as photgrapher, his life long dream.
This book is bound to bring out in you feelings of what could have and perhaps should have been. It is an excellent read for those winter nights snuggled on the sofa or perhaps on a long journey. You won't want to put it down until it's finished and it's guaranteed to make you want to read other of Douglas Kennedy's work....
