I never ever feel the need to have a tan, i'm quite happy going with the flow and being white. However, when it comes to special occasions and HAVE to put my body on show, then I feel the need to try and make myself look a bit browner! I'm totally against sunbeds and i'd rather not subject my body to harsh rays, and I daren't go for a spray tan and get my wobbly bits out whilst some bronzed slim gorgeous shop assistant sprays me! So last year when I was going to a wedding I went hunting in the shops and found Dove Summer Glow. It made me a nice healthy colour, and then I used it on holiday as an after sun as its a moisturiser also. And again now, i've a wedding in 3 days, so for the last 3 days I've been vigorously applying the cream in time....
Who are Dove? EVERYONE must have heard of Dove. In the last few years they have been really pushing their Campaign for Real Beauty, which has seen women of all ages, races, fat, thin, of all different shapes and sizes, lovingly show off their bodies for the world to see, to me this shows that Dove are a company who care, and don't just promote the "perfect woman" on their ad campaigns.Dove have a variety of products on the market, from the self tan, to bath soaps, shower gels, hand and body lotions, shampoos, conditioners and deodrants. They have collections such as:
Dove Original
Dove Summer Glow
Dove Supreme
Dove Go Fresh
Dove Intensive
Dove Pro-Age With all these, there really is something for everybody, and with their fresh smell, its not just aimed at women.
So.... what is Dove Summer Glow? Summer Glow is a body lotion which contains subtle self tanners. As you apply, it leaves your skin smooth and soft. The tan doesn't show straight away, it gradually enhances over the course of time. Summer Glow comes in two versions - Fair to Normal skin, and Normal to Dark skin. As I tend to tan when abroad, I went for the normal to dark skin. DO NOT mistake the product as something which will protect you from the suns rays, as it contains no protection.
What is the Lotion like? As the lotion takes time to "turn to tan" - the lotion is a pale cream colour and quite pearly. It does have a smell - however its not a smell I can put my finger on! It isn't horrible, and it doesn't linger much. Its not the same smell as other Dove products. Quite fresh, and summery! It is the same consistency as any other lotion.
Packaging The bottle contains 250ml, and i'm still using the same bottle as I bought last year and there is still lots of life left in the bottle. The bottle is the same colour as the lotion, a cream/pale gold with hints of brown in the detailing. The usual logo for Dove, which is in fact a Dove, is now a gold colour on the bottle.
On the front of the bottle is the logo, the shade of the lotion, in this case Normal-Dark Skin, and a picture of a skin tone indicator to help you to see what colour your skin may go (similar to a indicator on a hair colourant).
On the back is some information on what Summer Glow is, and what it can help you to achieve, then come the instructions for applying....
Wash your hands after use (I assume to stop streaky fingers!)
Do not put clothes on untill the lotion has absorbed
And do not get it into your eyes It also states that you shouldn't use the lotion on problematic skin, i'm OK in that area so I went ahead and used it.
The bottle is upright, and has a flip lid. I do feel the product may have benefitted by being an upside bottle, as residue does manage to linger on the top of the bottle after i've squeezed the lotion out.
Price Both shades of the Summer Glow lotions come in at £4.89 in Boots and £4.97 in Asda. In Summer, i've seen the Doves on special offer for example 2 for £5 in Wilkinsons. So if you are not in a hurry for a tan maybe wait for the special offers! But as the product lasts a long time if you are only applying for special occasions like I do, then the £5 region is good for me, and its a lot cheaper than other self tanners on the market.
So.... am I a bronzed babe yet? Bronzed... yes! Babe unfortunately not! Here is how its gone....
DAY ONE OF APPLICATION ----------------------------------------- As i'm wearing a long, strapless dress for the Wedding, i'm only tanning my upper region. As i'm not too good at applying lotions evenly, I got my partner to do it for me. To make sure it was applied evenly, I first got him to moisturise me, then apply the lotion. He complained that "it smelt - and I don't want brown hands" to which I assured him he wouldn't if he washed them straight after! He did the job without fuss, washed his hands and left me too it!
I waited for ten minutes, then got dressed. I like I needed a shower as the smell was quite overpowering once on my body, but as it wasn't offensive, and having a shower would probably not be helpful in getting a tan... I just left it.
DAY TWO OF APPLICATION -------------------------------------------- Again, stripped off my top half for my partner to do. He said I looked a little browner, I hadn't noticed. Same as day one followed....
DAY THREE OF APPLICATION ----------------------------------------------- I am noticeably darker, I have no streaks, and its a nice healthy colour. Nothing like a sun-bed tan, more like a i've been away for a week in Spain! Samer routine followed.
DAY FOUR OF APPLICATION ---------------------------------------------- I have achieved the colour I wanted, at home, no sunbeds and cheaply. I now look healthier and there isn't a streak in sight. I am really happy with the results. As the wedding is in 3 days, i'm going to do one more application in two days just to keep on top of the colour, else I will look like a different person if I carry on!
I've also noticed that my skin is a lot better on my face, and I didn't wear any make-up today which I don't do very often if i'm leaving the house!Would I recommend? YES! If like me you hate fake tans and harsh sunbed tans, then this is the product for you. Its done wonders in not too long a time. I do not have any negatives of which to add, i'm really happy and would use the product again... and again. Like previously mentioned, its good for special occasions, for a all year tan (if used every few days) or a substitute for after sun.
Advantages: Good as an aftersun. Colour change noticable quickly Disadvantages: Poor when it fades

...purposes of this review, ‘New Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion’.
I bought the Dove version for the first time this year. I really can’t remember the price, but it would have been under a fiver as I don’t spend much on cosmetics as a rule. (Just looking on the Superdrug website, and a bottle containing 400mls costs £6.99). My bottle contains 250 mls, which is ok as you wouldn’t want to spend too much on trying out a product, in case you hate it. Mine ... ...past two weeks. I haven’t used it as frequently as the bottle suggests, and have put it on three times each week. So far my legs are looking nicely golden in some lights, although some of my work friends can’t see any difference! The thing is, I CAN, and feel more confident with having a little glow to them.
How to use: The bottle just says to apply it daily, and allow to absorb into the skin before dressing. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Avoid ...

Advantages: Beautiful, natural looking tan, no streaks, relatively cheap, no nasty smells Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...tan. I first tried Dove self-tanning moisturiser about eighteen months ago. I believe I paid about £4.99 for it from my local Sainsbury's and to be honest, I've never looked back. I've used many items from the tried and trusted Dove range, including anti-cellulite cream, shampoo, deodorant and soap, so I thought that I would give this a try too as it is a brand I am both familiar and happy with.
The container itself is an off/white, creamy coloured ... ...including a little golden embossed dove underneath. The bottle describes the contents as, 'Summer Glow Body Lotion' and comes in two different shades - fair to normal skins, and normal to dark skins. My skin is possibly the palest you've ever seen. During my time, I have been nicknamed 'Casper' and have often been told I look 'ill', 'transparent', anaemic' and even 'consumptive' - so, you get the picture.
The bottle explains that it delivers daily ...

Advantages: Applies and absorbs easily, doesn't streak, reasonably priced Disadvantages: Can turn your palms orange if you don't wash it off
...but then I saw the Dove advertisement for their equivalent product Summer Glow featuring real women with lumps and bumps like I have looking healthy and happy and ever a sucker for Dove's much more subtle advertising strategies, the glamorous lady in the Holiday Skin ad got relegated. Come back when you've learned to sweat, eat cream cakes and have bad hair day's lady…
At the moment the market is flooded with this type of product. It is a body lotion ... ...frenzy has ensued.
The Dove product is called Summer Glow Body Lotion and is available for Fair to Normal skin and Normal to Dark skin. I tested the Fair to Normal. Even the bottle itself has a slight tan. Although it is packaged in the same style as the rest of the Dove range, the bottle has moved away from the trademark Dove white to a warm creamy colour. It claims to produce results in about 5 days. The body lotion applies and absorbs easily. ...

Advantages: Nice fairly quick tan, no horrible smell, leaves skin silky smooth Disadvantages: Can streak a bit but hardly at all
...a go.
I chose Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion after seeing it advertised on TV. The main reason I purchased this one above others is because I really like the Dove advertising scheme about their 'Campaign for Real Beauty'. It makes you feel that you don't have to be skinny to be beautiful and so because of this I chose their self tanning moisturiser.
Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion has two types: one for fair to normal skin and one for normal to dark ... ...This product is available at most supermarkets or chemists, including Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco, etc.
A sample of prices are:-
£3.25 for 250ml (taken from Asda.co.uk)
£6.98 for 400ml (taken from Asda.co.uk)

Right this is a re-submission of a review I have already done, as I didn't know how to submit new Product requests to Ciao, until some kind and caring person informed me how to - Thanks Belfin!
Thus, if you have already read and rated, please avoid, as I shouldn't be getting double the credit.
This review is actually for the DoveSummerGlowBodyLotion, which is very new onto the market - available in all good Boots stores .. and some rubbish ones as well!
I am really risking it I think ... posting too cosmetic reviews, as a boy in one night. I am in danger of making myself look like a right fairy, but hey ... who cares ... I look more of a fairy having actually used the stuff.
I saw this advertisded ...
Advantages: Gives a even tan with no streaks Disadvantages: Stains hands if used alot
So its coming up to the end of summer and your holiday tan is starting to fade. (I no mine is) Great. So i have resulted in using self tan. I brought DoveSummerGlowBody Tanning Lotion because most of my friends use it and they recommended it to me. It is very easy to apply and i think has a really nice smell. It can last for quite a while a well and i think it is well worth your money (i brought it for £4.99 from superdrug). This is good to use if you want to prolong your holiday tan or if you want to look like you have been away when you really haven't!
The bad points of this self tan lotion however is if you use it alot it can stain your hands a bit and make you look orange. It stained the inside of my nails and it looked really dirty looking so in the end i had too cut my nails really short! After i had grown my nails ...
Advantages: No Streaks, Light and refreshing Disadvantages: Took a while to dry and no instructions on bottle
This product succesfully moisturises skin whilst gently tanning it. The product is available in two different types: fair to normal skin and normal to dark. The product is kept in a one size bottle (250 ml) which lasted me a fair few weeks. This product costs around £4.25 per bottle in most leading supermarkets.
The product states that it will give beautiful glowing skin, gradually building a light tan and leaving skin silky smooth. It did do this after about a week of using this i found that my body was smoother and had a light and natural tan.
There is no instructions on how to put this product on, on the bottle it just states to wash your hands after using it. I recommend showering and exfoliating at least twice a week when putting this on this ensures a nice natrual glow and a streak free finish. ...
