The GNU Image Manipulation Program or GIMP is a good alternative to a good editor Photoshop. I downloaded it a month ago already and I've been using it since then until now. I find it very helpful and easy to use. Honestly at first I thought this is a failure but when I used it already in a month I realized why so many readers in this site have recommended this as a good free editor. It is pack with a lot of features but remains as very easy to use.
The editor is where the most function here, so here you can apply a multitude of adjustments and effects to your photos. There is everything in a click auto-levels and contrast to advanced color curves, compete with the ability to load and save present. There are many color and tone adjustments and a number of filter effects from a practical to fun. In the editor also there is a tab there where you can add text , shapes on the photo your working with. You also get undo and undo all the buttons for reverting any changes you don't like. And when you save your edits, you have the option to back up the original photo before overwriting, save under a new file name, or save your file in a designated output folder. This software can be run in all windows version and can be downloaded for free only. The installation is easy and the download speed is very fast.

This is all about GIMP and nothing about Download-Free.com
