Advantages: Dubious. Disadvantages: Oh god, don't get me started...
...special offers, I came across Dr Gillian McKeith's 24 Hour Detox - a small box containing 4 sachets of powder that you mix with fruit juce and drink. Pretty simple, I thought, and you only have to take it for one day, along with just soup and fruit for your meals. And it was on a special offer, £10 instead of £20.
Dear, dear readers, there are very good reasons why companies reduce the price of products, and we're about to find out ... ...dangerous. Throw rest of Dr Smiley McCrap's mixture in the bin.
11am
Starting to feel a bit better. Tentatively sup a bowl of soup and eat an apple. Big mistake. As soon as the food starts to digest, the remnants of the detox mixture stil in my body start reacting again and off I go. This time feeling like I'm actually ill, but manage not to throw up.
Dear reader, this review contains scenes of a graphic nature and viewer discretion is advised.
I mean it.
If you're squeamish, stop reading now.
Go on, shoo!
Get out of here!
This is truly disgusting!
Go!
Last chance!
Oh, well stay if you must. You've been warned!
***~~The Product, and Why I Bought It~~***
I'd never done a detox before, but had been thinking about it for some time. I had seen the various products displayed in Boots, but there were so many brands to choose from and I didn't really know what they did, and some of them you had to keep taking for up to a week as well as using a special diet sheet that came with them. This sounded like a lot of trouble to me, as I am at heart, extremely lazy and prefer instant results.

Dear, dear readers, there are very good reasons why companies reduce the price of products, and we're about to find out one of them.
The blurb on the back of the box recommends that you take the product on a weekend where you are not working. The first sachet is to be taken at 5pm on Friday night, followed by the second one at 9pm, the third one the next day at 9 am, and the last one at 1pm.
It also recommends being mixed with grapefruit juice, which I don't like that much, but I thought I'd better follow the instructions faithfully to make sure I did it properly.
The ingrdients seemed innoccous enough, containing mainly fruit and vegetables - from the packet:
All of this I had experienced before, except for the Donq Quai Root and Pumpkin Seeds.
***~~The Effects~~***
Now it really is your very very very last chance to stop reading this article and go look at one about Lemony Snicket's most recent publication. Be off with you.
Darn, you're still here. OK then, here we go...
On my way home I bought the tins of soup and grapefruit juice and fresh fruit that the instruction leaflet recommended to sustain me through my ordeal.
5pm.
On getting indoors, I opened the first sachet and thoroughly mixed it with the grapefruit juice and swigged it down.
Or attempted to, anyway.
The grapefruit juice did nothing to get rid of the foul taste of the powder. I took about four goes to force myself drink the 250mls of liquid, gagging after every mouthful. I then had to drink 3 glasses of water to get rid of the taste, which was something like a cross between vomit and grapefruit juice.
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAUUUUUUUCH!
And so, already feeling sick, I settled down to watch a dvd and eat my soup. Half an hour later, my stomach starts to feel weird.
*gurgle*
*gurgle gurgle gurgle*
*GURGLE*
I run to the toilet...
***~~Time Passes~~***
Good grief, that was horrible. The entire contents of my stomach had been reduced to the consistency of runny porridge. I thought I would never be able to get off the toilet. And the SMELL! ACK!
*GURGLE*
Oh damn, back I go again...
***~~Time Passes~~***
9pm.
I look at the second sachet with trepidation - what will be the effect on my already-traumatised bowels, I wonder? I take my life in my hands and decide to risk it.
*Rip-pour-mix-gulp-gulp-gulp-retch*
***~~Time Passes, interspersed by trips to the lavvy at half-hourly intervals~~~***
The engines canne' take any more of this!
***~~Further passing time and lavatorial interludes~~***
12pm - midnight.
I decide that no matter what happens, I am NOT going to take the other two sachets. My stomach continues to gurgle, and I have no idea when the effects will stop.
1am
Afraid to sleep in case of what might happen.
2am
Still awake, after another 2 trips to the loo.
4:30am
Suddenly wake up in a panic, run to the toilet. My nether regions are becoming sore due to the frequent cleaning.
6am
Wake up panicky again. Surely there can be nothing left in my stomach mby this point, 12 hours after the effects started, but it carries on nonetheless.
9am
Decide not to try to leave the flat at any point through the whole of today. Could be dangerous. Throw rest of Dr Smiley McCrap's mixture in the bin.
11am

1pm
Effects gradually slowing, only been once in last 2 hours.
5pm
Effects still present but slowing down more. It is now 24 hours since the start of the "experiment" and still no sign of an end to the trauma I have suffered. Bottom feeling raw. Stomach feeling bruised and abused.
9pm
Managed to eat some food without setting my stomach off again.
11pm
Back to bed, and this time sleep right through till 6:30 without waking. Still feeling the effects though, but going to toilet at normal intervals.
I continued to have the stomach trouble until well into Monday, meaning that the "24" hour detox was more like 72 hours.
***~~Conclusion~~***
I lost about 4lbs during the weekend of the detox. I definitely won't be using this in the future as part of a weight loss plan though.
The claims on the packet include "You will feel lighter, fitter and gain energy". My feet feel like lead, I feel dirty all over, I can't sit down. I wouldn't call that a success.
I do not recommend this to anyone except a masochist on a diet. Even then, proceed with caution.
Advantages: neat compact and discreet packaging Disadvantages: thirst quencher from hades
I'm somewhat of a veteran in this field, four times in as many months and I can't tell you what a difference I feel the morning after. My Nobby Stiles beg to differ though and after I'd say the twelve evacuation my poor rose petals were on fire....I could barely bring myself to join paper to ring to wipe away the molten gravy that set my colon on fire. Tears streamed down my face as I could feel Gillian rummage around my pipes with her brew of seed ... ...you invited for dinner. Her 24 hour detox plan is great for people on the go as it forces them to stop what they are doing and head for the nearest lav. I for one can't wait to get more of her soup down my eager gullet on it's way to bleaching my ring....Thanks Gillian ...

Quick review of Dr Gillian McKeith's McKeith's 24 Hour Detox
Quite honestly, I believe that if I had simply bought a pack of laxatives and taken them all at once, it would have produced the same effect as this product! I didn't even complete the course so goodness knows how you'd feel after the full four sachets! It's like having a stomach bug without feeling nauseous but with all the horrid effects of diarrhoea...a very unhealthy (and potentially dangerous) way to detox in my opinion. ...

Advantages: feel great Disadvantages: sore...gets boring after the 20th visit to the loo
That is such a great and funny review...yes I have just finished my detox....had to agree..it is really a "purge" now I actually like that feeling, albeit a little violent at times and yes, I shuffled to my chemist the next day for Jonssons baby wipes..readers..get these in before you start! However...on the 3rd morning, I leapt out of bed and felt great! mowed the lawn..chatted to friends on the phone who i have been avoiding for so long. because ... ...the beach and smiled all day...and had no craving for a glass of wine in the evening which is one of my main reasons for detoxing. All in all, if you are up for this...its very good...but..make sure you lay down and read or whatever, that wherever you lay, make sure its near the loo, and dont forget the moist wipes!! really! ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: It made me very ill
*Please read this review before doing the Gillian McKeith's 24 hour detox, as I experienced awful side effects!* I read the enclosed leaflet and made sure I followed a strict food detox the week before doing the 24 hour detox over a weekend. I started on a Friday evening and took the first 3 drinks as directed, including the 3 ½ fl oz olive oil one. (They tasted so foul I had to try and not throw them back up. They tasted salty with an extremely ... ...hold until just going to bed at 10pm. My entire bowels opened up and it felt so painful like all my insides were coming out (in liquid form). I attempted to sleep after being on the loo for about 1 hour, but kept running back every 15mins for the next 2 hours. Finally got to sleep and woke up at 4am. I am so glad my partner was there as I collapsed and in a semi-conscious state had absolutely no energy and was being sick everywhere. (Many times worse ...
